The Mile High Down Syndrome Association is seeking a Special Event Intern for its 2009 Fundraising Walk, a 5k walk and family fun day to raise money and awareness for Down syndrome. The event takes place on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at City Park in Denver.
The walk includes nearly 3,000 participants. Individuals put together teams, who raise money through pledges. Each team has a team captain who recruits other walkers and manages their teams' participation. The teams raise a significant amount of money for MHDSA often over $10,000 per team. Because of these fundraising, we must cultivate and treat the team captains like we do other major donors of the organization. The Special Event intern will manage the Team Captains by serving as a customer service and donor relations liaison. Team Captains will register on the Walk website and the Special Event intern will manage any special circumstances, issues and needs of the Team Captains in relation to their using the website. The position will include
the following tasks and responsibilities:
* Manage pledge tent on walk day.
* Create reports with necessary pledge data for walk day.
* Acquire and manage donated pledge prizes for the top 10 teams.
* Collaborate with Walk Organizer to determine incentive levels.
* Support Team Captains in using the Walk website. (The internship position does not require technical expertise in managing the website).
* Serve as customer service liaison for team captains.
* Create weekly contests and incentives for team captains in the months prior to the event.
* Conduct training with pledge tent volunteers prior to walk day.
* Conduct team captain kick off meeting(s) in June.
* Other duties as needed
* Position requires approximately 5 hours per week during April, May and June and 10-15 hours per week during July, August & September. In the weeks leading up to the walk and on walk day itself, the number of hours required could exceed 20 hours per week. Position requires availability all day on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, 2009.
* Bachelor's degree in a related field

The City and County of Denver's Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is seeking an intern to provide marketing & communications support for the divisions under DEH, including the Denver Municipal Animal Shelter, Environmental Quality, Public Health Inspection, and Community Health and Decision Support.
Job Responsibilities:
Duties include assisting with the development and distribution of marketing materials such as flyers, posters, press releases, and related communications materials to support DEH's various divisions. Responsibilities will also include writing and editing newsletter/web material, web site maintenance, planning special events and public outreach opportunities, working with staff and volunteers and establishing and maintaining social marketing network for the Denver Municipal Animal Shelter, occasional staffing of off-site special events, including press conferences and pet adoption promotions.
Qualifications:
Must be enrolled, or was recently enrolled in a Baccalaureate degree program in a professional field specific to the department and/or work assignment, such as English, Marketing, Communications, or related field. Interest in environmental management and animal welfare a plus.
Required: Excellent customer service, writing, proofreading, grammar and spelling skills, Comfort with Microsoft Word and Excel and basic office equipment. Ability to handle multiple projects.

Communications Intern will learn multiple forms of communications work as part of a departmental team. Intern will assist team in researching and developing news releases and other media correspondence; proof media and collateral materials, including ad copy and calendar listings; copy and archive media clips; manage online and social media programs; attend communication team meetings; and provide administrative assistance. This for-credit internship is a volunteer opportunity for a junior, senior or graduate level college student who is interested in non-profit fundraising and development, event planning and management. Girl Scouts of Colorado seeks an intern to gain experience in a variety of development areas including donor cultivation, event planning, corporate sponsorship, foundation research, individual giving and basic use of Raisers Edge.
By shadowing and assisting a fund development professional, the intern will learn multiple forms of fund development work as part of a departmental team. The intern will participate in planning, designing and the implementation analysis of annual direct mail campaigns, individual donor prospecting, corporate sponsorships, and grant research and writing.
The internship includes participation in strategic and logistical planning of individual gifts, event planning and grant seeking, being present during discussions regarding various projects, and being included in celebrations when goals are met.
Throughout the internship experience, the student will enhance and improve communication skills, leadership skills, time management skills, organization skills, practice analysis and problem solving skills, and further develop knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to work in a non-profit and/or professional setting.
Minimum of 10 hours per week during business hours (8am-5pm). Hours are flexible upon requirements of the internship.
