The Buzz Bus: Bestselling Author visits DU to talk about word of mouth marketing
Marcus Commons, DanielsCollege of Business, University of Denver
In his new book, The Anatomy of Buzz Revisited, Emanuel Rosen features a bus powered by recycled vegetable oil used by the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) to spread the word about their wilderness courses and about alternative energy. Rosen will join NOLS on their bus for a series of lectures on the latest research and methods in word-of-mouth marketing.
"About 80 percent of our students hear about NOLS through word of mouth, and we've always seen word-of-mouth marketing as an important part of our efforts," says Bruce Palmer, NOLS director of admission and marketing. "This tour will allow our friends in business schools to learn about this growing field."
Drawing from his own experience, as well as from interviews with consumers, researchers, and marketing executives who have successfully built Buzz, Rosen will discuss proven techniques for stimulating word of mouth. He will explain why companies and not-for-profit organizations should be proactive about stimulating buzz and will describe concrete strategies for stimulating customers to spread the word.
The NOLS bus will make a stop at DU on April 17. The NOLS bus has been used since 2004 to trigger conversations about the school. The bus has traveled more than 150,000 miles across the lower 48 states, and visited over 375 colleges, schools, retailers and festivals, all powered by recycled vegetable oil collected by the crew at restaurants and dining halls along the way.
Free and open to the public

Buddies Bash @ the Basin
Arapahoe Basin, Colorado
Join us for a day on the slopes at A-Basin!
We are holding a ski challenge to raise money for Sports Buddies (a Big Brothers Big Sisters program) and bring people to get out and enjoy beautiful Colorado! For a small entrance fee ($25), 100% of which will go to Sports Buddies, participants will receive a "punch card" / checklist of challenging runs to conquer. Prize drawings will be held for (1) those people that complete their punch cards and (2) all participants, regardless of whether they finish the challenge. Additionally, the challenge will offer two "challenge" groups: an advanced group with black and double black runs; and a beginner / intermediate group with green and blue runs. LaraBar, Brain Toniq, Eldorado Water, and more have donated product to fuel participants throughout the day, as well!
It takes $500 to match a child with a "Big" for six months, which quickly adds up. Sports Buddies also uses all donated gear, which results in ill-fitting and outdated equipment. Our goal is to raise at least $1,500 to help get kids matched and provide better equipment!
Cost: $25
Basically, if you want to contribute to an awesome organization, meet new people, and enjoy the outdoors, we'd love to have you. For more info and/or to RSVP, email Jenny at buddiesbash@gmail.com. Thanks!

Marketing Workshop for Copywriters
Boulder Center for Conscious Living
This marketing workshop is perfect for people interested in learning more about what freelance copywriting is all about and how to get a business started as well as experienced copywriters looking for new marketing ideas. These workshops are a positive and safe place for copywriters to learn and grow.
Here's what some of the people had to say about the March Copywriting Workshop with The Copywriting Institute:
Kelly's workshop was helpful to me in defining what copywriting is and some smart ways to go about building a copywriting business. She definitely knows her stuff and I would recommend her to anyone wanting insight into her profession.
Margaret Pevec, MA
-----------------------------------
I too attended Kelly Robbin's copywriting workshop and found it to be really helpful. I've done a few copywriting jobs over the years and needed to learn some new channels for seeking out clients.
Kelly opened up a new vista for me with her ideas for how to create a niche market and get yourself noticed by people who need and want someone who's talented at writing.
I only hope I can be half as successful as Kelly!
---------------------------------------
For just $25, the lucky attendees got the inside scoop on starting and running a copywriting business. Could I go out and do it tomorrow? No. Do I have a much better idea of what it takes to be successful? Yes! Kelly packed her workshop with strategies, tips, anecdotes, and wisdom from her years of experience. It is simply amazing what Kelly has accomplished in growing a thriving copywriting business. A few times I found myself thinking, I can't believe she's sharing her secrets.
This woman knows her stuff! I highly recommend this workshop to copywriters, copywriter wannabes (that would be me) and others who want to more effectively market their businesses.
Ann Tinkham
------------------------------------------
I too attended Kelly's workshop last night and enjoyed it very much. With 2+ years of copywriting under my belt I can safely say I wish I had had Kelly's workshop when I began my copywriting journey!
Kelly is informative, honest and helpful. It was a great experience - thank you Kelly!
