The Communications Office of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper seeks an unpaid, full- or part-time intern to assist this summer with office administration and organization, research projects and writing, and other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or requested.
The intern will experience a fast-paced, professional environment of communications, public relations and media relations and will learn about Mayor Hickenlooper and his initiatives, Denver municipal government and public service.
The intern will be trained in formal and informal training sessions and when embarking on new tasks. The intern will report to the Deputy Communications Director and will receive real-time feedback on performance as well as a review at the end of the internship.
Schedule: Part-time or full-time, with a consistent schedule each week (for example, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) of at least 25 hours.
Upon request, we will work with your college/university to accommodate the requirements of your school's internship program.
Public relations/communications, journalism or political science major preferred.
Required: Excellent customer service, writing, proofreading, grammar and spelling, Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Ability to handle multiple projects. Dependable. Successful candidates will be required to pass a background check.

The CSCUSA 46th Annual Meeting is scheduled for June 10-12, 2009 in Boulder, CO. Four Mile Historic Park, Denver, CO: Built c. 1859, Four Mile House is Denver's oldest standing structure and centerpiece of a 12-acre park. Built as a stagecoach stop and wayside Inn along the Cherokee Trail, it was the last stop on route to Denver and the first leaving town. After the railroad arrived in 1870 the Booth family transformed the site into a prosperous 600 acre ranch/farm. Today, this National Register Historic House museum and living history farm offers programs and heritage events that transport visitors to the early days of western migration and settlement. We offer programs to all ages, but focus on school aged children serving approx. 45,000 per year.
We have two important events coming up that are new to the Park and we need support with plans for marketing and publicizing.
1. Our 150th anniversary celebration picnic at the Park - August 9th
2. Special Abraham Lincoln temporary exhibit Oct 23rd - Nov. 11, 2009.

The Mile High Down Syndrome Association is seeking a Special Event Intern for its 2009 Fundraising Walk, a 5k walk and family fun day to raise money and awareness for Down syndrome. The event takes place on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at City Park in Denver.
The walk includes nearly 3,000 participants. Individuals put together teams, who raise money through pledges. Each team has a team captain who recruits other walkers and manages their teams' participation. The teams raise a significant amount of money for MHDSA often over $10,000 per team. Because of these fundraising, we must cultivate and treat the team captains like we do other major donors of the organization. The Special Event intern will manage the Team Captains by serving as a customer service and donor relations liaison. Team Captains will register on the Walk website and the Special Event intern will manage any special circumstances, issues and needs of the Team Captains in relation to their using the website. The position will include
the following tasks and responsibilities:
* Manage pledge tent on walk day.
* Create reports with necessary pledge data for walk day.
* Acquire and manage donated pledge prizes for the top 10 teams.
* Collaborate with Walk Organizer to determine incentive levels.
* Support Team Captains in using the Walk website. (The internship position does not require technical expertise in managing the website).
* Serve as customer service liaison for team captains.
* Create weekly contests and incentives for team captains in the months prior to the event.
* Conduct training with pledge tent volunteers prior to walk day.
* Conduct team captain kick off meeting(s) in June.
* Other duties as needed
* Position requires approximately 5 hours per week during April, May and June and 10-15 hours per week during July, August & September. In the weeks leading up to the walk and on walk day itself, the number of hours required could exceed 20 hours per week. Position requires availability all day on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, 2009.
