After a 17-year career of writing and editing, in 2009 I turned my sights to freelancing full-time and launched Writing Matters, LLC. Over the years I've worked for colleges and universities, in newspapers, advertising and marketing, at an engineering company and an environmental law firm. Now I'm offering writing, editing and proofreading services on a freelance basis. I'm equally adept working alone or in healthy collaboration to give the work something special. Pizzazz. Oomph. Zest. Call it what you will, that's the aim. If you tell me what you have in mind, we'll put our heads together to figure out how I can help. The process works something like this: 1) We'll discuss your target audiences and ways to best communicate with them. 2) We'll talk about what
you're hoping to achieve through this communication and how we can track success. 3) We'll make sure the project comes in on time and on budget. Whether I'm writing, editing or proofreading, I'm more than happy to work with you until the project meets your goals. In the end, together we can make the words dance. Sample projects include articles, newsletters, news releases, white papers, Web content, academic manuscripts, grant writing, proposal, internal reports and marketing materials.

As a proven professional, my extensive background in both restaurant management and project promotion has included a variety of functions including staging and managing large promotional events, donor solicitation, fundraising and grant-writing. Please note my expertise and success in the following:
Leadership and Project Management. Directed the operations of the Briarwood Inn, a high profile, fine dining restaurant with a staff of 90 employees for over 20 years. Hired, oriented and trained all the management staff, instrumental in the marketing and execution of the business strategy, selected the food menu and wine offerings, and assisted in the creation of the web site.
Results: Restaurant was repeatedly recognized as one of the best fine dining establishments in the region; the management staff became respected for high performance and extending exceptional customer service.
Fund Raising. A local homeless ministry was operating at a loss and was badly in need of an infusion of funds. Took the initiative to plan a fund raising event, gained approval of the governing board and executive director, organized the event, secured sponsors and businesses to donate items for a silent auction and located a nearby restaurant that agreed to host the event.
Results: More than 300 patrons attended the evening; the event immediately raised its profile in the community and raised more than $15,000 towards its ministries.
Grant-Writing. Recognized that several non-profits I'm involved with were in need of additional funding in order to continue their operations.
Results: Participated in several grant-writing workshops, obtained resource guides, presented proposals to the boards of the non-profits for their approval. Then drafted "Letters of Intent" and contacted matching foundations to successfully secure funding from both private donors and Foundations.
I currently serve on the Board of Directors of two local non-profits: an inner-city school and a homeless shelter downtown.
The variety and depth of my experience combined with my energy and dedication will add immeasurable value to any organization. I welcome the opportunity to discuss your needs and my qualifications with regard to potential opportunities. Thank you for your consideration.

As a proven professional, my extensive background in marketing and event planning has included a variety of functions including fundraising, staging promotional events, grass-roots marketing, budget planning, media communications and volunteer/intern management. My experience includes proven success in directing, managing and streamlining large organizations. Please note my expertise and success in the following:
Turning a No into a Yes. Charged with arranging the Opening Day Ceremonies for a local AAA baseball stadium that included the coordination of a "fly-by" with 4 Air Force F-16 military jets. When the local FAA director denied permission for the fly-by, contacted the office of President Clinton's Transportation Secretary who in turn connected us with the Regional FAA Director in Atlanta. Described the situation to him, explaining that this was a high-profile event.
Results. The previous refusal was overturned and the fly by was approved; this created a spectacular opening day ceremony.
Promoting Fundraising. Charged with advancing corporate donors for the 1999 US Women's Open Golf Championship. Arranged the sale of skyboxes for corporate sponsors at the tournament's 16th green. Promptly sold out of allotted spots but negotiated with the owner of the golf course and USGA officials to permit a few more additional skyboxes.
Results. Due to my persistent efforts, exceeded planned fundraising by $100,000.
The variety and depth of my experience combined with my energy and dedication will add immeasurable value to your organization. I hold strong interpersonal skills, am very flexible and a team player. I am also available to travel and work long hours when needed.

Greetings. My name is Travis Russell and I'm a 25-year-old English and Accounting major from Truman State University; Missouri's highly selective state school. I have just moved to Denver and am looking for employment. I am analytical, creative, dependable, a quick learner, and have great communication, presentation, and people skills.
Over the years I have had a great number of work experiences and learned a variety of skill sets that are easily transferable to a variety of vocations. In the corporate setting, I was trained as an assistant buyer/planner at Macy's Midwest. I ran, created, and presented reports to upper management, modified and reworked orders based on sales, margin, turn, and inventory analytics, and worked on advertising and marketing pieces. Macy's downsized in the spring of 2008.
Since that time I have started a company with investors, which has brought me to Denver. In the past year we have formed the company, gone through a discovery and patent process, built and launched a preliminary product, and are currently reworking the product and preparing a business plan for further investments. I am heavily involved in the creative development and copyrighting process, which I manage from home.
In college I also took on a variety of rolls such as President of my fraternity, Greek Week and Homecoming Chair, and was a bartender at a busy college bar. These experiences have been incredibly helpful as they relate to people management, teamwork, teambuilding, and infusing enjoyment into any type of project or collection of individuals.
I am very eager to find a regular job and an enriching workplace here in Denver. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, big or small. Resume readily available.

I am currently assisting with house appraisals in Colorado for D-Squared Appraisals as well as coaching a 13 year old baseball team for Ponderosa High School. I have a Bachelor's degree from Colorado State in Business Management with a minor in Spanish. My best qualities are customer/client interaction and support and having a value-added mindset. 3+ years in the restaurant and resort industry has equipped me with fast-paced customer support experience. My passion for sports has sparked an interest in sports advertising and marketing. I love being open minded and testing new ideas and viewpoints. I look forward to having an opportunity to talk more with you.
