Business Intern
Comedy Works Denver
Denver (DTC)

Industry:  Arts
Job Level:  Entry

Comedy Works in Denver is rated one of the country's top comedy clubs. It now has two locations, one in historic Larimer Square and the second new location in the DTC in the new Landmark project off of Belleview and I25. Comedy Works has been in business for 28+ years bringing the top names and talent to both of its stages. The Landmark location also contains a fine restaurant, along with a martini bar and ballroom and event space.

We are seeking two or perhaps three interns with complimentary skills, with either an emphasis at school in business and finance or more marketing and management based. We used this model this summer with great success. Pre-law is acceptable as well but not required. The internships will be based out of the new Landmark location (DTC)and will primarily be with the CFO/Business Affairs Director of both Comedy Works. The interns will experience business life and see first hand what it takes to run the day to day business side of a high profile entertainment and hospitality enterprise. No two days are the same in a primarily casual atmosphere. Tasks may include attending and participating in many forms of business meetings; computer research and drafting of agreements, letters, emails, creation of spreadsheets and some financial, business, marketing and strategic analysis. Also included are attending some upcoming depositions and other court related matters involving others which our company is tangentially involved with. The environment is fast-paced and we will do everything possible to make the internship experience meaningful and in no way administrative based. At the end of the internship, the interns will have been given a realistic taste of what it takes to run the business side of our enterprise. Training is ongoing and in all likelihood each meeting and each day is debriefed (informally) looking for all applicable business lessons. Often the intern will be asked to formulate his/her ideas and present them to the team for feedback, training, and then direction. It is also a goal to give the intern(s) autonomy to work on matters fairly independently on projects during the course of the internship.

School still has to come first, we would like to set up a fairly regular schedule though, either parts of three days a week or when you might not have classes on a particular day. We are targeting about 15-25 hours a week per intern, but are extremely flexible too.

Qualifications:
Emphasis in college on business, finance, marketing and/or management. Pre-law or pre-MBA coursework also acceptable. This position is also perfect for recent college grads who are still searching for a definitive career direction and seek to try a wide array of business related disciplines in the process.

Street smarts are also quite important.

Excellent customer service, writing, proofreading, grammar and spelling, Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Attention to detail is also required. Ability to handle multiple projects. Dependable. Organized. Inquisitive.

Helpful (but not required): Interest in the entertainment and/or hospitality industry.

Salary:  Unpaid Internship
Opening Date:  07/26/10
Application Deadline:  08/20/10

Applications are being accepted by email only please. Please electronically submit 1) a letter of interest (including schedule of availability), 2)a resume, 3) a list of pertinent coursework, and 4) three references to jfinesilver@comedyworks.com. Please use "Fall Internship" for the subject line. Interviews will be scheduled later in August or early September. Inquiries without the complete list of these items unfortunately will not be considered. No phone calls please.
