Business Intern
ColoradoHealth.com, Inc.

Location: South East Denver
Industry: Other
Job Level: Entry

Company Description:

ColoradoHealth.com, Inc. is a 6 employee Health insurance brokerage that works with all of the major health insurance Carriers in Colorado. We work with mostly small businesses and individuals to explain, quote and enroll them in the most appropriate health insurance for their needs. We also work with other benefits such as Dental, Group Life, Long Term disability and related products. ColoradoHealth.com was one of the pioneers in instant quotes for health insurance over the net, having possibly the first operational website for instant health insurance quoting starting in 1996.

Job Description:
We are seeking one or perhaps two interns with complimentary skills, with a college emphasis on business and finance or marketing and management. Having an intern will be a new experience for us, but we have been briefed by a company that has successfully worked with many interns over the years. The internships will be based out of our office located at 8751 E. Hampden Avenue, Denver, CO. Given that we are a relatively small company, our Intern(s) will experience business life in all aspects of health insurance, administration, and marketing, and it is our goal to find a senior or graduate student that may work their way into a fulltime position depending on their success. ColoradoHealth.com sees the upcoming year to be a pivotal time for Brokerages like ours that work with small businesses and individuals. Colorado is on the forefront of having one of the first operational Exchanges (Cohbe.org) that will be open for business in October of 2013 for Tax subsidized policies starting on January 1st, 2014. The next year will be a time when Brokers/Agencies will need to adapt or die, and we have been given a great opportunity to work with the Exchange at a time when health insurance coverage for some will become very affordable through Tax subsidies, expensive for others, penalties for those who don't get it, and disruption and change for hundred of thousands of Coloradoans. We are looking for an Intern that will help us understand and successfully market to this changing landscape. No two days are the same in a primarily casual atmosphere.

Our hope is to be able to challenge an intern with developing and implementing new marketing plans to capture a large number of new clients in 2014 and hopefully sooner. We will want our intern to get their insurance license (We'll pay the cost) and also be certified with the Exchange. Tom Crennen, the owner, will work directly with the intern as well as the other agents and support staff in the office. Helping to formulate and execute a successful marketing strategy will be the goal of this intern and our Company as a whole. Research, training in health insurance, implementing strategies and day to day work will all be part the experience. A non-Compete agreement will also need to be signed by the intern as they may have opportunities to build a clientele. It is also a goal to give the intern(s) autonomy to work fairly independently on projects during the course of the internship. The autonomy of the intern will mostly be regulated by their ability to research, modify and execute effective marketing plans.

School still has to come first. We would like to set up a fairly regular schedule though, either parts of three days a week or when you might not have classes on a particular day. We are targeting about 20-25 hours a week per intern, but we are flexible too.

Job Qualifications:
Emphasis in college on business, finance, marketing and/or management. Pre-law or pre-MBA coursework also acceptable. We would like the intern to be in their Senior year with the possibility of full time employment. This position is also perfect for recent college grads who are still searching for a definitive career direction and seek to try a wide array of business related disciplines in the process.

Street smarts are also quite important.

Our candidate will need excellent customer service, writing, proofreading, grammar and spelling, Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel skills. Attention to detail is a must. The ability to handle multiple projects, be Dependable. Organized. and Inquisitive.

Helpful (but not required): Interest in the insurance industry and the PPACA.

Pay is $9.00/hour

Salary: Under $30K

Opening Date: 12/17/2012
Application Deadline: 01/05/2013

How to Apply:
Applications are being accepted by email only please. Please electronically submit 1) a letter of interest (including schedule of availability), 2) a resume, 3) a list of pertinent coursework, and 4) three references to Tom@Crennen.com. Please use "Fall Internship" for the subject line. Interviews will be scheduled in January 2013. Inquiries without the complete list of these items unfortunately will not be considered. No phone calls please.
