August 30, 2010
Dear Friends:
*SPECIAL NOTE*
BECAUSE OF LABOR DAY, INSTEAD OF OUR REGULAR MONDAY PUBLICATION, AH JOBS LIST WILL BE PUBLISHED NEXT TUESDAY, SEPT 7.
Good News! Andrew Hudson's Jobs List has dozens of new jobs posted again this week! Some of the companies posting this week include: Vladimir Jones, The Denver Post, Tecra Tools, Burns Marketing, Noodles and Company, the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators, the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, Black Hills Corporation, University of Denver Daniels School of Business, PaySimple, the Sewall Childhood Development Center, Outward Bound, Holland and Hart, onTarget Jobs and many, many more!
The nature of today's jobs environment requires that you reply quickly to these postings. Even of there is an extended deadline, get your resume and cover letters in promptly. I've heard over and over from companies large and small that due to the large number of applicants, the early resumes always have a better chance of being considered for new positions.
Remember that for many of the jobs listed today, you can get instant notification when these jobs are posted throughout the week by following me on Twitter or Facebook or by regularly clicking the link "Jobs That Just Can't Wait."
Our 600th Nonprofit of the Week!
With this issue, Andrew Hudson's Jobs List is proud to say that we are featuring Colorado's own Engineers Without Borders, our 600th Nonprofit of the Week!
When Andrew Hudson's Jobs List was first started, I felt that in addition to helping to connect job seekers with employers, I also wanted to create more awareness about Colorado's nonprofit community. Not only do we provide free publicity to local nonprofits, but we also donate 10% of all gross revenues generated from AH Jobs List back into the nonprofit community and have made contributions to dozens of nonprofits throughout Colorado. I was motivated to do this when I served on the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and learned of other best giving practices from some of
Colorado's leading companies. It also inspire me to develop Frontier Airline's award-winning community giving program when I was the head of the airline's Advertising, Marketing and Communications Department.
Did you realize that there are more than 16,000 nonprofit organizations registered in Colorado? These nonprofits provide services to our communities in a variety of ways and address critical issues including education, crisis response, healthcare and medical research, community building, children's issues, senior's issues, the environment, arts and culture, national and international issues and many, many other important areas.
According to the Association of Colorado Nonprofits, the combination of the paid and full-time volunteer workforce makes Colorado’s nonprofit sector the third largest industry in the state in terms of employment and the paid workforce of Colorado nonprofits alone represents a significant 5.6 percent of the total Colorado workforce (or one out of every 18 workers); more than the state’s banking and insurance industry.
But according to a recent national survey of nonprofits published in June, it has been, and continues to be, a difficult financial environment for nonprofits. About 40 percent of the respondents have seen further declines in contributions in the first five months of 2010 at the same time that a majority (63 percent) have seen an increase in demand for their services.
I highly encourage other businesses to also become involved with the nonprofit community by sitting on boards, creating volunteer and contribution opportunities for your employees, sponsoring a pro-bono project with a nonprofit, or sponsoring a table at a charity event; there are endless ways to help local charities in your community.
While it is simply a good thing to do, the rewards and loyalty your receive from clients, customers your community and most importantly, your employees are invaluable.
Does your company have a unique program that supports local nonprofits? If so, please email me at info@ahjobslist.com with details and I'll feature your company in an upcoming edition of Andrew Hudson's Jobs List.
Welcome Denver Teacher's Residency!
With today's edition of AH Jobs List, you'll see banner advertisements for the Denver Teacher's Residency.
Denver Public Schools (DPS) believes that student success is tied directly to teacher excellence. This philosophy is the motivation behind the Denver Teacher Residency, a program through which DPS recruits and cultivates aspiring teachers who seek to be agents of change in a progressive urban school district.
The Denver Teacher Residency offers program participants an alternative route to a career in education, providing them the training and instruction necessary to help them become exceptional teachers. The residency combines clinical classroom experience in urban, high-needs DPS schools with apprenticeships with skilled DPS Lead Teachers and graduate coursework at the University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education. DTR program participants will:
* Earn a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education
* Teach, learn, be coached, and mentored alongside a DPS Lead Teacher throughout a year-long residency experience
* Obtain a teaching job within DPS
* Receive an alternative teaching license and work toward a professional license by meeting DPS’ bars for new teacher effectiveness.
By cultivating and sustaining exceptional teachers, the Denver Teacher Residency can help students and aspiring teachers achieve their full potential -- and make a significant contribution within Denver Public Schools.
The Denver Teacher Residency is looking to prepare future educators that:
-
Will become elementary school or secondary mathematics or science teachers serving in high-needs Denver Public Schools accountable for making expected academic gains;
-
Will begin with an alternative teaching license, and work towards meeting performance requirements for a professional teaching license;
-
Will eventually earn an additional endorsement in Linguistically Diverse Education and Special Education;
-
Are willing to make a commitment to serve in Denver Public Schools for at least five years (including Residency year).

Engineers Without Borders
http://www.ewb-usa.org
Dubbed the “Blueprint Brigade,” by Time Magazine, EWB-USA, based in Broomfield, Colorado, grew from little more than a handful of members in 2002 to over 12,000 today. EWB-USA has over 350 projects in over 45 developing countries around the world including water, renewable energy, sanitation and more. These projects are completed in partnership with local communities and NGOs.
EWB-USA helps create a more stable and prosperous world by addressing people's basic human needs by providing necessities such as clean water, power, sanitation and education.
EWB-USA’s strength comes from its over 250 dedicated chapters, including university chapters on 180 campuses in the United States.
Because of its strong university presence, EWB-USA is the catalyst for a new movement to educate the next generation of socially conscious engineers deeply aware of the needs of the rest of the world.
EWB-USA has touched the lives of more than one million people and continually strives to increase this number annually.
History
Sparked by a chance backyard conversation, EWB-USA has become a global engineering movement. In 2000, University of Colorado Civil Engineering Professor Bernard Amadei happened to connect with a landscaper working in his backyard.
The man, Angel Tzec, invited Dr. Amadei to visit his village in San Pablo, Belize, which was desperately in need of clean water.
He flew to San Pablo, which had no running water, electricity or sanitation. Dr. Amadei was also stunned to see little children carrying water all day long from a nearby river. “I knew that, as a civil engineer, there had to be something I could do.”
Dr. Amadei returned in May, 2001 with eight CU engineering students and, working with the local community, installed a clean water system powered by a local waterfall. Simple, sustainable and low-cost, the entire project was completed for $14,000.
As he harnessed the power of water, Dr. Amadei decided to harness the power of professional and student engineers to complete similar low-tech, high-impact projects in other developing countries. The result: Engineers Without Borders-USA.
“The world doesn’t need any more big dams. The world needs clean water, energy and basic services for the billions struggling just to stay alive at the end of each day,” Dr. Amadei says.
Happy job hunting,

Andrew Hudson
