Job Description: 

At the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center, our strength is the efficiency with which we deliver superior guest services and financial support to the Garden of the Gods Park.  The ultimate objective of the DOO is to provide leadership and direction to ensure the continued success of the Visitor Center by communicating, modeling and demonstrating a commitment to the mission.    

MISSION: To provide public education and a continuous stream of revenue for the Garden of the Gods Park.

Areas of Responsibility
  • The DOO is responsible for maintaining the success of the Visitor & Nature Center throughout every function, from delivery of guest services to the net income.
  • Work closely with business partners to ensure their success.
  • Submission of an annual operating and cash flow budget.
  • Fiscal management to maintain operations within the approved budget.
  • Monthly financial statement review to insure proactive management of the financial health of the Visitor Center.
  • Review partner payment documents, and audit periodically.
  • Annual presentation to Foundation Board of Directors.
  • Serves as spokesperson and chief advocate for the Visitor Center mission.  Conduct all partner and staff orientations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all department managers, partners, vendors, volunteers and City staff.
  • Develop management schedule to meet business and outreach demands.
  • Communicate with management team to direct and endorse department progress and complete annual staff reviews.
  • Understand and abide by industry laws and standards. (GAAP, Wage & Hour, FMLA etc.)
  • Ensure the safety of the Visitor Center guest, and the maintenance and security of the property and Visitor & Nature Center. 
  • Safeguards the culture of the Visitor & Nature Center by hiring diverse, guest service centered team members.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in senior leadership role
  • Evidence of success in developing, managing, and growing an annual operating budget. Strong business management skills.
  • Knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, customer service, employee management.
  • Excellent analytical skills to evaluate data and make operational decisions.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively, diplomatically, and effectively with Boards, volunteers, staff, partners and diverse public constituencies.
  • Excellent planning, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, email, calendar/scheduling and word processing software.

The salary range for this position is between $70,000.00 and $80,000.00 annually (depending on experience) and comes with a competitive benefits package.  The Director of Operations reports to the Foundation Board of Directors Managing Trustees.  This position currently has four direct reports: Office Manager/HR, Facilities Manager, Marketing & Special Events Coordinator, Program Coordinator.
