This is a full-time, exempt position as a Hydraulic Modeler for the Mile High Flood District (MHFD).  This position would provide a variety of technical functions associated with hydraulic modeling and floodplain mapping. The Hydraulic Modeler position plays a critical role in maintaining consistency in MHFD floodplain mapping products. The Hydraulic Modeler would collaborate with other MHFD support staff on developing products used for floodplain management.    

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical review of supporting documentation (hydraulic analysis, reports, plans, profiles, and other products) for Flood Hazard Area Delineation (FHAD) studies
  • Provides technical review of supporting documentation (hydraulic model, mapping, profiles, and other products) for Physical Map Revisions and coordinates with FEMA contractor
  • Coordinates with MHFD Staff Engineers to ensure consistency of reviews
  • Assists Watershed Managers and Project Managers in project-related technical modeling needs
  • Assists with the development of FHAD guidelines and outreach to consultants
  • Assists with other technical support as needed
  • Assists in special projects and educational outreach efforts that support MHFD’s mission/vision and core values
  • Seeks opportunities for training to maintain technical proficiency in hydraulic modeling

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant branch of engineering
  • Six (6) years’ experience of hydraulic modeling in which at least three of those years were in an unsupervised or technical lead position
  • Licensed Professional Engineer

Key Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, drainage, and floodplain management concepts
  • Working knowledge of the technical and practical aspects of regulatory requirements associated with floodplain management
  • Demonstrated ability to apply such knowledge and concepts to specific problems
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other members of the staff and consulting engineers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest and ability in maintaining technical proficiency and interpersonal skills development

  • Starting compensation rate:  $90,000 – $110,000
