We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our marketing & communications efforts. The Marketing & Communications Director is a multi-faceted and pivotal position which supports all areas of programming and fundraising. The Marketing & Communications Director is responsible for developing, overseeing and implementing strategic marketing and communication initiatives and tactics that increase program participation and raise Walking Mountains’ visibility throughout Eagle County and beyond.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and implement strategic marketing plan in support of overarching Walking Mountains Strategic Plan
  • Establish and Implement Annual Marketing Plan
  • Manage Marketing Coordinator
  • Work closely with program staff to determine marketing needs
  • Work closely with program staff, development staff and President to build capacity for Youth Programs, Community Programs, Sustainability and Stewardship Program, and Development Department
  • Develop and implement Walking Mountains’ digital strategy to support all four departments initiatives including but not limited to: paid search, paid social, paid display, email communication, website, and organic search & social (facebook, Instagram & twitter)
  • Maintain Walking Mountains’ website as the primary source of the most current program and event information
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for the Climate Action Plan for the Eagle County Community
  • Maintain and improve internal communication strategies
  • Produce print and digital collateral including but not limited to the Annual Report, Sustainability, Youth and Community program marketing materials, special event, fundraising campaign materials, and facility & vehicle signage
  • Assist Development team with creation of fundraising materials for: major donor meetings, capital campaign, annual appeal letters and program sponsorship
  • Produce reports to the board on marketing initiatives and results
  • Produce engaging videos to promote fundraising, programs and Walking Mountains brand
  • Work with all four departments to set and adhere to annual budget
  • Manage cross-promotional relationships with partners including but not limited to: Vail Resorts, USFS, Town of Vail, Town of Avon, Eagle County, Eagle County Schools, etc.
  • Manage and nurture media relationships with print, radio and TV outlets
  • Manage advertising agreements and establish new agreements based on opportunity and need
  • Write and distribute press releases to support programming and special events


  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Minimum 5 years related experience in marketing and public relations or communications
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience working in Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, WordPress, and MS Office
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated experience managing and creating budgets
  • Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Superior skills working with content management websites and relevant social media sites
  • Ability to work as an effective team player and maintain a positive attitude
  • Minimum 2 years managing paid digital campaigns
