Public Works Citizen Relations and Information Specialist

In this position, you will perform specialized research, report writing, public relations, and administrative duties for the Public Works Department.

Essential Job Functions – the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform

  • Respond to citizen requests, complaints, and concerns; investigate and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Conduct basic studies and research; prepare periodic and special reports based on findings from research, studies, and surveys
  • Perform field, office, and computer-aided studies; perform field work such as conducting observations
  • Remain up-to-date on all department projects, programs, and goals
  • Coordinate and conduct meetings with City groups, technical experts, and constituents
  • Identify issues and develop suggestions for resolutions
  • Prepare staff response guidelines on key issues
  • Maintain engineering files, including plans, studies, inspections, surveys, maps, and other data related to engineering and projects

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:

  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Principals and procedures of report writing and recordkeeping

Ability to:

  • Set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Interact effectively with management, technical experts, City groups, and the public
  • Explain pertinent City policies and procedures
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Ideal candidates will also demonstrate:

Experience which demonstrates knowledge of traffic maps and engineering drawings.

Supervision Exercised: Requires the occasional direction of volunteers, helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.

Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids: Computer, printer, copier, telephone, and standard office equipment.

Specialized Computer Equipment and Software: Microsoft Office.

 Relevant Background and Formal Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in communications, business administration, public administration, engineering, natural sciences, or a related field.

Three years of full-time experience in engineering, construction, or program administration related to public relations or communications.

Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift 10 pounds occasionally; sitting most of the time.
