POSITION SUMMARY: To implement media relations strategies and tactics that maximize exposure for the Hotel Monaco Denver, Panzano, Citizen Rail, Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City and Bambara Salt Lake City in print, broadcast, online, social media and other media opportunities on a national, regional and local level.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with sales, operations and restaurant teams to identify PR strategies that best communicate the concepts of the hotels and restaurants. Duties are as follows but not limited to:

  • Create and implement a comprehensive strategic media relations plan for the Denver and Salt Lake City hotels and restaurants to enhance the property reputation and to increase its visibility through the use of national, regional and local media — both travel and hospitality trades and general consumer and business news
  • Establish and maintain positive and productive professional relationships with members of the news media — national, regional, local and global; trade, business and general. This includes meeting with, entertaining and conducting tours with journalists; especially travel and food and beverage writers.
  • Serve as a primary media contact responsible for responding to media inquiries and requests for the properties
  • Create new and seize existing media opportunities (print, broadcast, cable and online) for hotels and restaurants. Research, pitch and place favorable stories about hotels its people, programs, policies, practices and events
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key local influencers and community partners
  • Research, pitch and place favorable stories reflecting key messaging (including hotel's programs, policies, practices and events) in strategic, targeted media outlets. Identify trends and the opportunities that lie within each hotel
  • Serve as a liaison between journalists and Kimpton spokespersons (key Kimpton Home Office Executives as well as spokespeople from individual hotels and lounges). Work with spokespeople on messaging and positioning
  • Serve as hotel ambassador in the community through involvement with key non-profits and organizations
  • Establish and maintain positive and productive professional relationships with all members of the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants staff, including field staff, hotel and restaurant General Managers, Chefs and Directors of Sales and Marketing.
  • Organize frequent Public Relations meetings with property GM's and chefs
  • Attend any pertinent property staff or sales meetings
  • Track all press clippings
  • Assist with media reservations, media interviews, media requests, photos shoots, video shoots, etc.
  • Handle press kit updates and production
  • Maintain website and social media updates pertinent to Public Relations
  • Fluent in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other popular or emerging sites
  • Assist with crisis communications as needed

SKILLS REQUIRED: Qualified candidates will have at least 7 years of experience, ideally working in a public relations agency or as an in-house publicist and will have attained the equivalent of an Account Manager or Account Supervisor. At least 3 years will have been spent practicing in the hospitality industry. Corporate experience may also be considered.

  • A Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field
  • Stellar verbal and written communication skills; excellent knowledge of AP-style journalistic writing and editing practices and strong presentation skills
  • A basic understanding of various travel and business segments such as corporate, group, FIT, SMERF and others most important to the bottom line
  • Experience in special event and media FAM tour coordination
  • Experience with media training and preparing and coaching company spokespeople in advance of interviews
  • Ability to work as a remote member of the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants regional PR team, reporting to multiple supervisors, including Kimpton Home Office and individual local hotel general managers
  • Willingness to travel to Salt Lake City at least two times a quarter.
  • Familiarity with annual budgeting processes

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet multiple deadlines under pressure
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to diplomatically prioritize requests

  • Ability and willingness to follow established processes and procedures, and also work fluidly in situations where standard operating procedures do not exist
  • A credible and authoritative public presence
