The Snowmass Sun

The Snowmass Sun, Snowmass Village’s hometown newspaper, was founded — on a shoestring — by Jack Schuss and Dick Slaughter in 1978, just about a decade after the village itself. And just as the small scrappy town of Snowmass Village has flourished in the shadow (some might say) of nearby historic Aspen, so too the small scrappy weekly newspaper has flourished despite the nearby historic Aspen Times, proving that a truly local newspaper can thrive even under difficult circumstances. Like any community weekly, the Sun focuses on its hometown with intense coverage of the busy resort’s government, businesses, music, entertainment and year-round outdoors recreation. Every Wednesday, the Sun publishes between 3,000 and 4,000 newspapers, depending on the season, that are distributed up and down the Roaring Fork Valley.
