ACCOUNTING ANALYST I

Join the Denver Urban Renewal Authority as our next Accounting Analyst I

The Denver Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Analyst I to join our Finance team and support the fiscal operations that power Denver's urban renewal and community investment initiatives. For over 65 years, DURA has partnered with neighborhoods, businesses, and the City of Denver to revitalize underinvested areas and expand economic opportunity — and sound financial stewardship is at the heart of that work. In this entry-level role, you'll gain hands-on experience with governmental accounting, assist with reconciliations, reporting, and transaction processing, and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial data that supports DURA's mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Accounting

  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of accounting records in accordance with GAAP, governmental accounting standards, and Authority policies.
  • Prepare routine journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain organized electronic accounting records.

Accounts Payable & Treasury

  • Process accounts payable transactions from invoice receipt through payment.
  • Prepare ACH and check payment batches using Sage Intacct and online banking platforms.
  • Maintain vendor files, including W-9s, ACH authorizations, and banking documentation.
  • Support cash management and banking activities while following established internal controls.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist with cash flow reporting and other financial analyses as assigned (financial statements, budget-to-actual reports, audit schedules, and management reports).
  • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and other reports for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Research routine accounting transactions and financial activity and assist in resolving discrepancies.

Technology & Process Improvement

  • Utilize Sage Intacct, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and related applications to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support software system implementation and process documentation as assigned.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting procedures and documentation.

 

Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to interpret financial data, identify exceptions, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Ability to perform routine financial analyses, identify variances, and prepare supporting schedules for management reporting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP; governmental accounting knowledge preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Sage Intacct or comparable ERP accounting software.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and electronic workflow systems.
  • Experience processing accounts payable, ACH payments, and online banking transactions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and maintain confidentiality.

EXPERIENCE

  • One to three years of accounting experience
  • Governmental or nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, electronic AP workflows, and online banking platforms preferred.

Education – Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.

Supervisor Responsibilities – None.

Working Conditions

  • The DURA office is located at 410 17th Street providing great access to all that downtown Denver has to offer. 
  • Hybrid work environment (WFH 2 days per week) with occasional meetings outside normal business hours.
  • Periodic deadlines requiring flexibility during audit and budget cycles.

Salary and Benefits

Starting Pay: $70,000 to $80,000/year.

Position Salary Range: $70,000 to $85,000/year.
