Gates Family Foundation

The Gates Family Foundation (GFF) is a private family foundation based in Denver Colorado (www.gatesfamilyfoundation.org). GFF was established in 1946, and has distributed more than $350 million since it was created. Primary areas of focus for the Foundation include K-12 education, natural resources stewardship, and urban and rural community development. The Foundation is also a capital grantmaker in a broad set of areas including education, parks and recreation, social services, arts and culture, and community development. The Foundation’s grantmaking is focused on the state of Colorado. GFF is also home to seven family funds, essentially foundations within the foundation, with areas of focus that can differ from those of the main foundation. The largest of these family funds is a primary investor in the stem cell biology and regenerative medicine program at the Anschutz medical campus and in the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS) at the University of Denver.
