Our Purpose: OpenWorld Learning serves elementary and middle school children (grades 3rd-8th) from low-income families. We support children’s school success by tapping the power of digital technology and peer teaching to develop leadership and ignite a love of learning.
What We Do: OpenWorld Learning provides a fun and challenging educational program to hundreds of children annually in Colorado public schools. During after-school and summer hours, we turn school computer labs that would otherwise sit empty into powerful learning communities. Our programs develop and reinforce overall reading, writing and math skills. We teach advanced computer skills – including computer programming – as a way to develop children’s teamwork, problem-solving, logical thinking, and complex communication skills. Outcome data has demonstrated that students involved in OpenWorld Learning programs increase their academic success.
OpenWorld Learning also develops young leaders, by training and supporting older students as they teach and mentor younger students in the program. School principals have high praise for OpenWorld Learning, calling the programs “transformative” and citing how students who become leaders in the program also become leaders in the school, with better grades and school attendance.
