Mission The mission of The Hudson Gardens & Event Center is to serve the community by providing a forum for educational, cultural and artistic events and activities, drawing upon the beauty and resources of our regional display garden and our community partners. History The path to what is now The Hudson Gardens & Event Center began in 1941 when King and Evelyn Hudson purchased five acres of land on a two-lane dirt road off of S. Santa Fe Drive. This plot of land housed their home and restaurant, The Country Kitchen, which was a local favorite and great success. After 20 years in the restaurant business, King and Evelyn retired to spend time indulging their love of gardening. Before her death in 1988, Evelyn established the King C. Hudson and Evelyn Leigh Hudson Foundation in order that their land may become an asset to the community for generations to come. The Hudson Foundation honored Evelyn’s wishes by developing a regional display garden to provide the community with a place of beauty, learning, and enjoyment. Featuring plants that grow well in Colorado’s Front Range climate, The Gardens have grown into a vibrant community for visitors, plants and wildlife alike. June 1996 brought the official opening of The Hudson Gardens, later renamed The Hudson Gardens & Event Center to reflect ongoing expansion and growth via educational programs, cultural events, and concerts. The Hudson Foundation employs a full-time staff and is governed by a Board of Directors. The Hudson Gardens & Event Center property is owned and generously supported by South Suburban Parks and Recreation. The Gardens are a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and a Tier II organization of the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).
