The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) is the premier international membership association for physicians, researchers, and medical professionals, who are dedicated to conquering lung and thoracic cancers worldwide.  We are currently seeking a senior-level Accountant, to join our team of dedicated professionals.

Day to day, the Accountant  plays a key role in supporting core accounting functions including month-end reconciliations, general ledger review, and internal financial reporting. This person needs to understand and apply GAAP principles to an audited organization.  Primary responsibilities include assisting with month-end close,
budget to actual analysis, and projects.  The Accountant must be an organized self-starter with extreme attention to detail, who can effectively problem solve and prioritize workload to meet established timelines.

This nonsupervisory, exempt position is physically based in our downtown Denver, CO office on a hybrid work schedule. This position reports to the Controller.

In this role, you will:

  • Understand GAAP and can apply it to the General Ledger/Financial Statements. Understand and can complete the month-end and year-end close processes and accurately record journal entries.
  • Assist with preparing audit and tax (form 990) requests.
  • Prepare accurate and timely internal and external financial reports and transform financial data into meaningful information, including budget to actual comparisons for management and departments
  • Projects such as assisting with implementing budget software or analysis of various program expenses.  We run several different types of programs and conferences.
  • Improving any or all processes, as well as updating written financial policies and procedures.
  • Right hand for the controller and can work independently once trained. 
  • Demonstrate full ownership of assigned projects and duties, with accountability for using effective problem-solving skills to work through issues and for keeping Controller informed of any concerns.
  • Actively support and demonstrate IASLC core values.

A successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience, experience in Public or Non-profit Accounting preferred.
  •  Collaborative approach to working with Finance team and other staff members.
  • Proven knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and audit principles and practices, as well as standard accounting processes and procedures, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in the use of Sage Intacct or another ERP.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Excel as well as standard Microsoft Office programs.
  • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines, maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, and effectively communicate and present financial information across the organization.
  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate financial information and policies/procedures to team members, including some who may not have a financial background.
  • A deep commitment to the mission of the IASLC and compassion for those living with lung cancer.
  • Multilingual fluency/literacy would be a plus.

  • Compensation:  $82,000-86,000 annually, depending on related experience.
