POSITION OVERVIEW
At Invest in Kids, we owe our success to our programs and the efficiency of our organizational processes. To help maintain and grow this standard, the Accountant ensures we reach our strategic and operational objectives within financial management. The position is responsible for timely and efficient processing of transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting in compliance with accounting principles, grant award requirements and internal policies while also supporting the Finance & Administrative Manager and Chief Operating Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors expenditures and income related to various program budgets to assure availability of funds working specifically with the following:

Financial Statement Preparation (50%)
• Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable as aligned to the monthly accounting close process.
• Assist with the preparation and review of monthly bank reconciliations.
• Ensure timely and accurate payments, proper coding, and compliance with internal policies.
• Receives, reviews, validates, processes, prepares, reconciles and/or archives financial documents, payments,    receivables, statements, invoices, purchase orders, and/or other records for assigned functions; verifies documents for approval; posts financial data, and/or account information.

Budget Support & Financial Reporting (20%)
• Collaborate to develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and strategies for meeting long-term financial goals.
• Support the preparation of monthly reports and year-end financial activities
• Prepare for and assist with financial audits.

Gift Entry Support (15%)
• Coordinate with the philanthropy team to track and record gifts and donations.
• Reconcile donor data between systems.

Additional Areas of Responsibility (15%)
• Serves as a back up to the Sr. Staff Accountant on all aspects of monthly accounting close procedures.
• Monitor accounts to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with applicable laws/regulations.
• Support staff in interpreting laws, rules, and regulations, and clarifying procedures.
• Align with the organization’s strategic initiatives to enhance financial reporting processes through automation and innovative solutions.
• Function as liaison between agency personnel (program, accounting, development) and contractor(s).

QUALIFICATIONS
• Manage time efficiently and independently, handling a range of financial/accounting duties with frequent interruptions and competing priorities.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong follow-through and ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to think critically and proactively find solutions.
• Strong commitment to Invest in Kids’ mission and belief in the value of non-profit work in service to our community.

REQUIREMENTS
• At least 3 years prior experience in an accounting role (non-profit industry experience preferred)
• Experience with accounting software (knowledge of Financial Edge is a plus).
• Extensive experience with Windows XP Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
