Position Summary
As an integral Student Support Services staff member, the TRIO Scholar Advisor position utilizes comprehensive advising and career planning strategies to support students from the start of their academic journey to graduation. This position is knowledgeable about educational case management, campus and community resources, student data tracking, event coordination, student retention strategies for low-income and first-generation college students, and program assessment and evaluation. The U.S. Department of Education funds this position and is contingent upon the approval and continued receipt of sufficient funds.

Duties/Responsibilities
55% – Individualized Educational Case Management & Holistic Advising
- Use a variety of advising and academic coaching approaches to increase retention and graduation of program participants
- Provide coaching that strengthens academic skills, non-cognitive skills, financial literacy, career skills, and readiness for graduate school
- Assist with course selection, scheduling, and registration
- Assist with the selection of new program participants
- Assist with intake interviews, assessment, and orientation of new program participants
- Assist students with accessing academic support
- Use student information systems to assess students’ academic progress and to assist students with academic goal-setting and career planning
- Refer students to appropriate University resources to meet their academic, career, and personal needs to be retained and to graduate in a timely manner
- Assist with maintaining accurate records of student’s progress toward their degree and program services received
20% – Event Coordination and Student Development
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and facilitate academic, non-cognitive skill development, in-demand career skill, and financial literacy workshops that increase retention, graduation rates among low-income and first-generation students from diverse backgrounds
- Coordinate graduate/professional school preparation activities, including skill development workshops and graduate school visits
- Facilitate new student orientations and assist with planning and implementation of program graduation celebrations
- Track student program participation and maintain scholarship eligibility lists
- Maintain monthly program services and events calendar
- Maintain e-learning management system to ensure robust online program services
- Assist Project Director with program evaluation, assessment, and reporting
15% – Supervision of Undergraduate Student Staff
- Assist in hiring and supervising undergraduate student staff
- Assist with coordination and training on federal TRIO programs, peer mentoring, tutoring, inclusive leadership, basic helping skills, group facilitation skills, and general office functions
- Assign mentor caseloads and conduct caseload review meetings
- Review and approve documentation of provided services
- Assist with ensuring timely and accurate completion of assigned work
5% – Outreach and Recruitment
- Assist with outreach and recruitment of potential program participants
- Provide presentations to students, faculty, and staff on the program and eligibility criteria
5% – Additional duties
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- One year of experience working with low-income, first-generation, and other underserved student populations in the areas of academic coaching, career development, goal-setting, graduate school planning, and financial literacy
- Experience with coordination and implementation of activities and events that increase students’ academic, career, financial, and personal skill development
- Experience using student information systems

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in sociology, counseling, human services, psychology, higher education, or related
- Experience supervising student staff
- Demonstrated experience working with low-income, first-generation, and students and students with disabilities in a higher education or similar setting
- Ability to prioritize, manage, and execute multiple tasks
- Knowledge of student development theories and best practices for underrepresented students
- Demonstrated understanding of access, equity, and inclusion in higher education
- Has a background or experience as the population served
Work Hours
- Full-time, 40 hours per week, Non-Exempt
- 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend work
- This position is an on-campus position

Salary for Announcement
The minimum of the pay range for this position is $40,000. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300 – $56,200. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $47,300.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
