Western Colorado University invites applications for the position of Assistant Athletics Communications Director.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Athletics Communications Director (AACD) will report to the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Communications in delivering the University’s and Athletic Department’s internal and external messaging. The AACD will assist the Assistant AD of Communications with the day-to-day operations of the sports information department and be the primary contact for assigned sports. Along with these duties, the AACD will produce video content for Web and social media distribution; help oversee game day operations; nominate Western teams and individuals for awards; participate in marketing and promotional efforts; supervise and train student workers; collaborate with other departments on Western’s campus to assist with inquiries and requests; assist with acquisition of essential office equipment; and complete other tasks assigned by the Assistant AD and the Director of Athletics. The AACD must adhere to Western Colorado University, RMAC and NCAA guidelines and regulations.

Included in, and not limited to, the duties of this position are the writing of press releases, game recaps and feature story content; utilizing graphics and video to produce social media posts; creating/editing video content such as previews for all athletic events and “mic’d up” features; recording/entering statistics for assigned sports using NCAA Livestat software; and managing student-worker schedules and coverage of home athletic contests including press box and press row

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will hold, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree, preferably in the field of journalism, communications or other related field. They must possess accuracy in writing, editing, and proofreading and be computer literate using MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign or other desktop publishing programs. Candidates must have the ability to work with minimal supervision and with interruptions while meeting the demands of multiple priorities and deadlines. Preference will be given to candidates possessing experience using NCAA Livestat software and video editing software, along with experience in sports writing, sports copy editing, proofreading or desktop publishing. Prior experience in a university sports information office is highly desired.

Compensation: This is a full-time, twelve-month position with an initial salary of $45,235. Western provides excellent, shared-contribution insurance and retirement plans, paid time off and access to other University benefits.
