The College of Letters, Arts and Sciences (CLAS) at MSU Denver invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Operations.  This is a 12-month appointment reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of the College of Letters, Art and Sciences.

Position Summary

The Assistant Dean for Operations works with the Dean’s leadership team to support the college’s business operations in realizing the vision, mission, strategies, and goals for CLAS.

These duties include various job functions related to:

  • Prioritizing needs, running business operation systems, and resource planning.
  • Providing technical and operational support for associate deans, chairs, directors, faculty, and staff of CLAS.
  • Contributing to the day-to-day operations, function, and efficacy of CLAS and the Dean’s Office.
  • Supervising some administrative office support staff.
  • Serving as a representative of the Dean’s Office on university committees or in university initiatives related to operational aspects of the college.

The Assistant Dean for Operations is primarily focused on:

  • Carrying out college operational responsibilities as set by the Dean of CLAS.
  • Providing resources and assisting the Associate Dean of Faculty and Student Affairs, department chairs, and faculty on annual evaluation systems for tenure-track faculty (CAT I) and non-tenure-track faculty (CAT II).
  • Collaborating with the CLAS Associate Dean of Faculty and Student Affairs on systems that support faculty development, evaluation, and the promotion process.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Associate Dean for Data and Enrollment Management on rooming for academic classes.
  • Providing resources and holding decision-making authority for the College on the use of facilities and space on campus, classroom assignments, office space, etc.
  • Coordinating with MSU Denver Registrar’s Office, MSU Denver Facilities Planning Office, and AHEC on space, safety, and facilities-related operations.

Responsibilities

Personnel Systems (40%)

  • Serve as the point of contact and operational expert on Watermark, the digital platform to which all faculty evaluation materials are uploaded.
  • Assist Executive Assistant to the Dean, Department Chairs, and Directors with navigating faculty and staff hiring requests.
  • Collaborate with the CLAS Associate Dean of Faculty and Student Affairs on support systems related to faculty development, evaluation, and the promotion process.
  • Serve as a resource to department chairs on administrative tasks pertaining to sabbatical leaves, leave-without-pay options, and emeritus status.

College/University’s Operations and Facilities Planning (40%)

  • Serve as the CLAS “point person” on the use of facilities and space on campus, classroom assignments, office space, etc.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with MSU Denver Registrar’s Office, Administration and Finance Department, MSU Denver Facilities Planning Office, and AHEC on space and facilities-related operations.
  • Provide resources to offices and department chairs on campus operations and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a robust communication plan to deliver facility and operational policy, needs, and updates to the appropriate constituent bases.

College Representation (20%)

  • Coordinate the formation of Dean’s Office-level service committees.
  • Serve as lead on operationally oriented committees in the college.
  • Serve as the representative of the Dean’s Office on a variety of committees related to operational aspects of the college.

Schedule Information

This is a full-time, exempt position. While this position is designed to support flexibility with both in-office work as well as some remote schedules, there is an expectation of working on campus at least three days a week.
 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree – any discipline
  • A minimum of five years of university-level experience in operations, systems, and/or coordination efforts for a large organization
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student, faculty and staff population including, but not limited to, people of color, LBGTQIA+ individuals, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, individuals with differing abilities, undocumented students, nontraditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree – any discipline
  • A minimum of three years of university/college-level administrative leadership experience in operations, systems, and/or coordination efforts
  • Strong knowledge of academic operations
  • Strong communication and human relations skills
  • Experience implementing best practices to improve campus systems and business operations

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. 

The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $90,600 – $125,000.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
