Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications will lead a successful multimedia department covering 12 NCAA Division II athletics programs. Excellence in each area will be attained through building relationships with local media, accurate statistical compilation and record keeping, and promoting all athletic department activities, including fundraising, game recaps, press releases, and special features. The Assistant Director of Athletics Communication will supervise and support the efforts of the Athletics Communications Assistant and other support staff, including student employees, as appropriate.

The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications will also serve as a key staff member on the athletic administrative team, helping further RU Athletics’ goals in a manner consistent with the university's vision.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential:

Promote the brand of the Athletic Department and Regis University:

  • Elevate the profile of Regis University and RU Athletics to internal and external audiences. The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will participate in athletic department and university-sponsored events and initiatives. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will be integral in organizing and planning special events such as luncheons, banquets, Hall of Fame, Blue and Gold Weekend, etc.

Leverage Media and Fundraising Opportunities

  • The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will serve as a critical liaison with Strategic Marketing and Communications to promote highlighted events for RU Athletics while simultaneously leveraging media opportunities to raise the profile of the department and the university. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will work with the Deputy Director of Operations and Events to expand the collateral for corporate sponsorships and fundraising proposals and create gameday scripts that highlight all partners affiliated with RU Athletics.

Statistical Compilation and Record Keeping:

  • Responsible for overseeing the generation, compilation, and distribution of game statistics for RU Athletics. Maintain historical records and photos for all teams. Responsible for distributing and posting statistics to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the institutional athletic website.

Written Media Coverage:

  • Responsible for overseeing, producing, and distributing all game recaps, press releases, and special features, including distribution to the institutional athletic website, social media channels, local media, and conference office.

Student-Athlete Recognition:

  • Must nominate student-athletes for assigned sports for various weekly and annual awards.

  • Serve on voting and ranking committees at the conference, regional, and national levels.

Social Media:

  • Supervise the production of all social media content. Navigate the rapidly changing world of communications and position the department to take advantage of social media opportunities through video and other emerging mediums. Promote and publicize all aspects of Regis Athletics through designated social media platforms.

Content Creation:

  • Direct the design and implementation of creative content materials, including, but not limited to, print materials, digital graphics, video content, splash pages, schedule posters, media guides, and game programs.

Schedule Staffing:

  • Responsible for hiring, training, and scheduling staff members for all home athletic events. Recruit, hire, and manage independent contractors for games (Play-by-play, shot-clock, PA, etc.). Responsible for mentoring graduate assistants and work-study employees as they grow.

Professional Development:

  • The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications .

Fundraise for the Athletic Department:   

  • Required to participate fully in department fundraising activities, fundraising events, university campaigns, and special project campaigns; this includes producing content necessary for aforementioned fundraising activities.

Create and Maintain an Atmosphere of Compliance:

  • Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the NCAA, the RMAC, and RU Athletics. Immediately advise the Regis University Deputy Director of Compliance if reasonable cause exists regarding any violations, whether by employees or students, that have occurred or will occur.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in sports media is required.

  • Experience using NCAA Live Stats and Stat Crew software preferred.

  • Knowledge of social media platforms such as Instagram, X, Facebook, and TikTok.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Enthusiasm for sports and the teams or organizations that they work to promote.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products is preferred.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Premiere Pro and After Effects.

  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking preferred but not required.  

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Weekend and/or evening work will be required. Some local, regional, and/or national travel may be required.

Pay Rate:

$57,000 / annually
