Digital Experience (DX) enhances customer experience citywide by aligning digital technologies with traditional marketing and communications efforts. DX manages and promotes the city's priority messaging, brand identity, website, digital marketing platforms, Denver 8 TV, and the city's municipal and community television stations. DX provides marketing and video production resources to city agencies and departments and administration of the city's cable franchise and public education access agreements.
What We Offer
This is an on‐call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week. The pay range for this position $50.00/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.
Location
In this position you can expect to work at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed.
What You’ll Do

We are seeking an experienced and passionate individual to join our team.
As the Broadcast Engineer, you will serve as the technical broadcast engineering lead for the Denver Marketing Services department, which supports the Denver City & County Building (Denver8 TV) and remote field productions across the city of Denver (mobile truck productions) as well as supports the departments with their video coverage work such as Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, Denver City Council, the Auditor’s Office and many more.
In this position, you will design, configure, install, troubleshoot, repair, and operate new and existing television equipment and information systems, which includes broadcast television systems, audio/visual systems, networking equipment, and related electronic equipment. You will also research new television equipment and systems to determine feasibility and work with the greater Technical Services (City’s IT department) team, the Content and Creative Services director and vendors to collect quotes and recommends purchases for new equipment and/or repair of existing equipment.
This role involves the technical set up & strike of the following: events and government meetings to be broadcast live on Denver8’s 24/7 linear television channel and online stream; events and concerts at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre; events and productions at Denver Community Media; remote/field events and productions utilizing the mobile truck. Monitors feeds & signals throughout events & troubleshoots any issues as they arise.
Responsibilities
- Provide first line of engineering support for all master control, live productions, studio control room, edit suites, and streaming.
- Execute daily routing, system checks, and patching throughout the broadcast facility.
- Support, diagnose, and troubleshoot studio, production, and digital television systems including RF, video, audio, cameras, switchers, routers, digital video servers, on-air automation, and STL/TSL systems.
- Maintain and repair/arrange repair of transmitters (TV, Microwave, Fiber, Satellite, etc.), receivers, cameras, switchers, graphic systems audio equipment, video record systems, routers, automation/editing systems, intercoms/RTS systems, monitors, and displays systems. Performs emergency maintenance as needed due to equipment failure, power outage, etc.
- Create & follow maintenance procedures to ensure 99.99% operational reliability with live broadcasts, linear television channel, streams, satellite dishes, and all other associated broadcast transmission requirements.
- Create and maintain engineer workflow processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Train staff in the proper operation of television production and test equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for someone with some or all the following skills and experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in live, remote, and studio production environments
- Lead or played a major role in the design and build of a commercial video production or Television facility
- Strengthening team and client relationships and proven to have excellent communication skills
- A well-rounded knowledge on closed captioning solutions, broadcast, and OTT hardware/software and network support and maintenance for IP based systems for audio, video, and OTT
- A solid understanding of typical activities and procedures found in a live TV production environment (studio, control room, auditorium), including operator roles, working with experienced and inexperienced talent, use of intercom and IFB
- Knowledge of current broadcast systems and an intuitive eye for future or next generation broadcast systems
- An in-depth understanding of fiber-based transport of audio/video signals for broadcast communications. Experience with RF equipment such as broadcast transmitters, antennas and microwave equipment.
- A passion for broadcast engineering/IT and be comfortable with current media technologies, concepts, and emerging trends (i.e. Media over IP, Cloud Computing, etc.). with adaptability and willingness to implement on our practices.
- A solid understanding of automated production control software and broadcast automation systems and related equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional experience designing and installing video broadcast facilities and repairing other telecommunication devices to the component level.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
- Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
- License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
