The position works in an office setting, with no exposure to hazardous substances or conditions. The physical demands of the position are limited to regular office demands such as prolonged use of a computer and long periods sitting at a desk.
The Chief of Staff is a vital member of the President’s Cabinet and will serve as a bridge for communication between the President and key constituents. This individual performs high-level work associated with the President’s goals and vision for the university and serves as the President’s primary liaison with faculty, staff, committees, and other organizations and individuals internally and externally as designated by the President. The Chief of Staff supports the President in ensuring effective, ethical, and efficient operations and administration across the university and performs executive functions on behalf of the President, in his absence, or when he is otherwise not immediately available. Additionally, this position will assist the President in developing and implementing a comprehensive legislative strategy.
Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., JD, MBA) preferred. Minimum five years’ relevant work experience in a college, university or similar setting influencing and working closely with executive level leaders.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.
