Platte River is looking for a communications and marketing specialist to join our energetic team in a growing department! The communications, marketing and external affairs department manages internal and external communications, public relations, marketing, community engagement and support, legislative policies and government affairs for Platte River, Efficiency Works and other specialized programs.

Job purpose/summary
Responsible for the development and execution of internal and communication strategy, public and media relations, and marketing initiatives. This position helps manage and coordinate public information, marketing, outreach and education initiatives and activities.
Essential duties and responsibilities
• Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization
• Plans, develops, and coordinates marketing and outreach activities to achieve internal and external communication strategies and tactical plans that support strategic and operational initiatives
• Employs multi modal methods, technologies, and processes to effectively inform stakeholders
• Coordinates communication and marketing programs including public and media relations, publications, social media, all websites and digital content, traditional and digital advertisement placements
• Manages the development and submission of press releases, videos, digital content, and marketing materials
• Manages and supports the development, design, and delivery of newsletters and a variety of other communications
• Supports the department’s Director, Senior Leadership Team, and other departments as necessary, to develop, review, guide and recommend Company communications and media initiatives
• Maintains internal and external Company branding standards and initiatives, including all digital presence, style, content, and communication and marketing materials
• Executes communication methods to help educate and inform the community and stakeholders on Company services, programs, and initiatives
• Works with partner organizations throughout the region to coordinate marketing and outreach efforts regarding Company activity
• Assists with preparation and responses to media requests, including composes talking points and statements, coordinating interviews and press briefings
• Supports initiatives to promote good public relations and enhance Platte River’s image
• Assists with the monitoring of pertinent issues that can impact Platte River’s operation, reputation, and image
• Supports the Company’s social media strategy and presence and coordinates the development of relevant content
• Assists with special projects as assigned
• Maintains databases, and monitors media mentions and goal tracking
• Correlates and assesses data and recommends strategies on outreach program initiatives
• Prepares, and in some cases, presents reports to provide timely and accurate information
Other functions
• Represents organization outside of normal business hours as required
• Fulfills on-call responsibilities, and working flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required
• Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Requirements
• Application of strong knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Application of good knowledge of marketing, public relations, media relations, and public involvement programs
• Application of good knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, writing, and editing techniques
• Ability to guide, develop, and design promotional materials
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at a time
• Ability to participate in a variety of community/external meetings and interact with partner organizations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, government officials, media professionals, and the public
• Application of good knowledge of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to copy edit and comfortably speak in public settings
• Outstanding listening ability to respond effectively and influence others
• Strong understanding of brands, reputation management, and how to influence public opinion through effective public relations and communications strategies
• Demonstrate commitment to quality and continuous improvement

Preferences
• Application of good and/or working knowledge of methods and techniques of graphic design, video production, and digital content creation
• Application of good and/or working knowledge of related software used in marketing
• Ability to speak, read, and/or write in Spanish
Qualifications
Education & Licenses
• Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, graphic design, journalism, marketing, management or related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy
Required work experience
• Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, and media relations
Preferred work experience and/or education
• Professional experience in utility industry or related field
• Multi media journalist experience
• Graphics experience
• Experience working with Spanish-language media
Physical Demands
Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
Hazards
Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident

Salary range for position: $74,200- $100,200;
Target hiring range $74,200 – 87,200 (placement DOQ)
