Title Communications Intern
The Communications Intern works with the Public Relations staff in the area of daily public relations
and public information activities for RTD, which can include content development, researching,
drafting, and writing general public information pieces such as news releases, newsletters,
brochures, fact sheets, photos, videos, and other items as needed; assisting in the implementation
of public programs and events. Will lead some fairs and festival efforts.
Manages, coordinates and implements the summer and fall fairs and festivals.
Assists in the development of collateral materials, articles, fact sheets and other informational
Researches material for news releases: assists in writing, formatting, editing and proofing.
Manages and responds to email requests and questions that are received in the public relations
Assists with the development, coordination and implementation of various public relations/media
relations/government relations campaigns to address transit-related issues.
Assists with RTD On the Road program.
Assists with organizing information for the RTD website and social media sites.
Assists with maintenance of the metro-area and national contact information, government agency,
and neighborhood group lists.
Acts as back up for distribution of daily clips.
Other internship-related duties as assigned.
Current student in good standing seeking a college degree in Communications, Public
Administration, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Political Science, or a closely related field.
Basic knowledge of communications, writing, and editing skills, including proper use of grammar,
punctuation, spelling, editing, proofreading skills, media relations and intergovernmental relations.
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
Ability to write concise, factual material.
Basic public speaking and presentation skills.
Basic knowledge of development process for collateral and promotional materials.
Ability to work independently, using good judgment and decision-making skills, with minimal
Good organizational skills with accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
Ability to efficiently manage time and workload, including planning, prioritizing, organizing, and
follow-through on a variety of tasks, projects, and assignments.
Ability to manage stress and high pressure situations.
Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discern sensitive issues.
