Description
As a member of our Communications and Marketing team, this position works to help guide Mesa County Public Health in the development, implementation, and execution of strategic communication materials to increase the value of Public Health and the programs and services we offer. Our team is looking for a creative thinker with strong attention to detail, excellent writing ability, and project management skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Build and manage a rich-content communications plan that attracts the appropriate audience to our many distribution platforms (including websites, social media, interactive elements and videos, presentations, etc.).
- Possess strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Keep websites for Mesa County Public Health and other collaborative entities up to date with relevant content and the latest features, including content accessible in multiple formats and languages.
- Remain current with digital marketing trends and anticipate new strategies, including updates to social media marketing, attribution, and multi-platform media buying.
- Create content for the public at large to increase the value of Public Health in the community. In collaboration with the communication team, coordinate agency branding efforts to maintain a consistent brand voice and message.
- Brainstorm and develop various multimedia campaigns, create templates, calls to action, and content.
- Work to improve internal communications within the agency through management of intranet site, monthly agency newsletter, signage and other materials to improve agency culture and workplace satisfaction.
- Make data-driven decisions and provide marketing and creative content based on proven conversion behaviors (such as past engagement and website interactions, site page visits, etc.).
- Review and understand Public Health best practices and guidelines in order to communicate recommendations to the public.
- Measure, report, and optimize communications including paid marketing campaigns using dashboards, Google Analytics, and other reporting tools.
- Work with program managers, the executive team, and external partners (i.e. designers, sales reps) to produce relevant content that meets the needs of our programs and audience.
- Build and manage relationships with partners in media, advertising, non-profit, and other industries to ensure our agency remains a trusted community partner.
- Respond to questions, concerns, and complaints by answering calls, emails, and other inquiries (such as social media comments or messages) from our community members.
- Research and prepare talking points essential for community understanding, to be used for staff reference as well as media interviews.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the agency supporting the Marketing and Communications Manager.
- Use trusted relationships with media partners to schedule and coordinate interviews both recurring and as requested by local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Monitor, track, and document media coverage to ensure a consistent, clear message is presented to the community. Assist monitoring media coverage of Mesa County Public Health and public health issues.
NON ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Participates in emergency planning and response activities.
- Participates in agency-wide activities that may include strategic planning, quality improvement, and/or staff development, as appropriate.
- Completes necessary training through FEMA, including Incident Command Structure (ICS) courses.
- When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by County leadership, employees may be required to work as part of a National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mass communication, marketing or equivalent experience
- Spanish speaker preferred
- Demonstrable experience in mass communication, marketing, data analytics and tools

- Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
- A valid Colorado driver’s license with a responsible driving record.
Computer and Technology
- Advanced knowledge and ability with Google Applications including Gmail and Drive.
- Experience with graphic design software such as Canva and Adobe Suite is highly desired.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
- May be exposed to communicable diseases and infections.
