JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:

Create strategy and manage external community communications in each resort community. This will include the development and delivery of content, building and maintaining relationships with local media and coordination of CSR and community outreach messages with resort leadership. Communication and outreach strategy will include:  EpicPromise, Project Zero, and company or resort specific programs and positions that have community impact.  This position will work with the Director of Community Engagement and resort community relations positions on the development and execution of strategy.   

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create and execute a strategic community communications plan including:
Company’s community contributions programs
Working with non-profits partnership communication efforts
CSR program press events, campaigns and events in each community
Project Zero efforts
Promotion of initiatives
Manage environmental communications at local and regional level
Outreach with local towns and community entities on joint environmental efforts
Resort or Companywide efforts and positions such as on-mountain improvements, housing or transit
Develop and execute new approach to sharing impact of company’s CSR and environmental programs through current communications vehicles
Develop and implement process to gauge community sentiment including survey work
Develop and execute ongoing community communications efforts including email newsletters and company announcements
Works with community/government relations team on community issues as they arise
Support crisis communications and outreach specific to resort community issues

This person must have:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or public relations or equivalent experience
Experience working or living in Vail Resorts’ resort communities or other similarly situated community is a plus
5-7 years of strategic community relations/PR experience, communications experience working with CSR and environmental issues a plus
Online content creation and distribution expertise
The ability to be a strong, clear and concise communicator
A passion for the mountains and the outdoors lifestyle
A desire to develop leadership skills

This position will not work on:

Enterprise-wide crisis communications, i.e. cyber, employee or safety issues
Environmental or safety issues specific to individual or multiple resorts
Preparation for crisis response for “corporate” issues
Execution of crisis response strategy
Partnerships/relationships with local officials, key community leaders
