The Opportunity

The Controller and Assistant Treasurer manages the foundation’s accounting and tax reporting functions, while maintaining and extending the legacy of our founder, Bill Daniels. This position is responsible for processing disbursement transactions and the recording of such transactions in respective financial ledgers, as well as reconciling all ledger activity to supporting source documentation. Processing responsibilities include payroll and employee benefit transactional activity. The Controller assists the CFO with the preparation of financial and tax reporting, preparation of annual spending budgets, and managing cash flow and financial obligations.

The Controller manages the organization’s banking and regulatory activities in addition to property and risk insurance programs. This position works closely with the CFO in the design, development, and implementation of internal controls in connection with various Daniels Fund business activities. This position also works with other executive officers in providing support and assistance in the performance of departmental functions.     

 

The Role

The Controller and Assistant Treasurer will:

Financial Transactional Processing

  • Process invoices and other disbursement requests through payable systems.
  • Process individual scholarship calculations and payments.
  • Process system interfaces resulting in the transfer of financial information from various sub-ledger systems to the general ledger (i.e. payroll, expense reporting, scholarship and grants).
  • Process bi-weekly payroll with outside service provider.

General Ledger Accounting and Reporting

  • Prepare monthly cash receipts/deposit reporting.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for general ledger posting.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and reconcile quarterly general ledger trial balances with respective subledgers.
  • Assist with quarterly budget variance reporting and analysis.

Financial and Tax Reporting

  • Assist with preparation of annual operating budgets with input from department executive officers.
  • Assist with preparation of annual spending forecasts with corresponding budget variance analysis.
  • Manage internal activities for the independent audit; serves as primary liaison with auditor.
  • Prepare and file annual reports as required by governmental agencies.
  • Manage the release of financial information for public disclosure purposes (i.e. website posting, annual reports and other communication materials).
  • Prepare required information schedules in support of annual federal and state tax returns.
  • Monitor and process estimated excise and income tax payments.
  • Manage the filing of tax returns and communications with tax authorities.  

Other Specific Duties

  • Manage disbursement transactions with outside benefit plan service providers.
  • Assist the CFO with the development and monitoring of internal systems and controls.
  • Assist the CFO in the mitigation and management of enterprise risk.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly cash reports and forecasts of cash needs.
  • Assist in the review of scholar financial eligibility and payments.
  • Serve as plan administrator for the 401(k) plan.
  • Manage Form W-2 and Form 1099 processing and reporting functions.

Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position will be in the range of $110,000 to $150,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Daniels Fund offers a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, paid holidays, health, dental, vision insurance, LTD, life insurance, a matched 401k retirement plan and a host of additional benefits.
