The purpose of this position is to actively promote the Department's public image. This position is the key point of contact for local, national, and international media and the Governor's Press Office, and is responsible for the media and public relations initiatives for CDHS. This position creates, manages, and implements external PR/media initiatives. In the process of performing work, this position writes and selects material for release to broadcast, print and online media; fields requests from reporters; manages press conferences; and coordinates with Governor's Office communications staff, as needed. This position also supports the communications director in providing leadership for the communications unit,

This position also represents executive leadership and their "voice" for  all that the Department does to serve the people of Colorado.  This position is responsible for brainstorming, creating, and transforming ideas into articles, speeches, presentations, videos, reports and publications.
 
This position also functions as a work leader who serves as a liaison to, and exercises some control over, the communications work product of the office-level communications staff throughout CDHS.  This position assigns tasks and follows up to ensure the office-level communications staff contribute to the products produced by the communications team.

 

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights:
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
 
AND
 
Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience within the past 5 years working in a marketing, communications or public relations capacity.  Experience must have included writing press releases, media advisories, fact sheets and/or briefs, or news stories/articles.
