Location 

The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days and is subject to change.

What You’ll Do

DEN is seeking an experienced, creative and energetic Director of Marketing and Brand to drive the airport’s marketing, creative and brand functions and lead an incredible marketing and creative team. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Global Communications, Marketing and Customer Service/Experience, this individual will be responsible for developing a world-class marketing plan for Denver International Airport, directly managing marketing and creative strategies and activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization's brand within the overall direction established by senior leadership. This position is responsible for branding, creative services, marketing, website and other special events and promotions.

We are looking for a marketing and brand champion that can develop a brand story, identify the target audience, and leverage our brand through multi-channel marketing campaigns. Our ideal candidate is versatile and knowledgeable about social and email marketing, digital and web marketing, advertising, graphic design and will know how to execute a campaign with a variety of tactics and varying levels of budget. In this job you will lead a small team to accomplish large initiatives, and you will need to roll up your sleeves and work hands-on to bring a campaign from concept to fruition. This job requires strong project management skills such as quality, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple and changing priorities. 

We are looking for a leader with superb business and political acumen, sound understanding of strategic business practices, that is outcome and results oriented, has experience working with staff at all levels, especially creative teams, and has a proven track record of excellent performance within a very complex enterprise. The successful candidate must be able to work on and manage complex and varied issues, be on call 24/7, and have a history of solid leadership and management. 

As the Marketing and Branding Director, you can expect to:

  • Develop and implement a marketing strategy and plans to support DEN’s core programs, including identifying target audiences; and developing and executing strategies, tactics and measurements of success
  • Coach and mentor staff. Ensure the team is sufficiently knowledgeable and dynamic regarding marketing strategies. Lead staff development initiatives that include training, individual development and succession planning. Establish performance expectations and standards for all levels of employees to achieve or exceed performance metrics and to prepare them for the future. Promote a culture of inclusion and empowerment
  • Champion continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities  
  • Conceptualize, implement and manage innovative and scalable digital campaigns
  • Establish timelines and resources needed to achieve marketing and outreach goals
  • Manage marketing operations that may include contracting with and managing consultants or producing in-house; and fulfilling requests from internal staff to support their programs and priorities
  • Manage the creation and development of collateral materials for all functional areas DEN including exhibits and displays as well as a variety of publications online and social media content
  • Oversee the development and placement of all paid advertising tied to strategic goals
  • Ensure that DEN staff and stakeholders, understand DEN’s branding strategies and have the appropriate information and tools to successfully communicate them both internal and external to the airport
  • Oversee the creative services section that includes the development and maintenance of www.flydenver.com, DEN’s intranet site, video, photography and graphic design
  • Create and execute special events to promote the DEN brand such as conferences and community events
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the marketing function including budgeting, planning and staff development
  • Manage special projects related to the above duties and all other duties as assigned
  • Have a keen understanding of accessibility laws and best practices related to websites and digital materials
  • Collaborate with the Communications, Events, Concessions and other teams and divisions within DEN

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a strategic marketing and brand program to advance an organization's mission and goals
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing a team from concept to product
  • Experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, annual reports, marketing literature, presentations and other print and digital publications, content and ads
  • Strong foundation in copywriting
  • Experience in market segmentation
  • Creative and thoughtful on how new media technologies can and should be utilized
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities and multiple projects
  • Ability to internalize the brand and articulate it throughout DEN
  • Ability to recognize, meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Solid experience with managing the production of graphic design and knowledge of editing, video production, and web design and content management
  • Experience with Wrike, project management tool

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of marketing and/or communications supervisors.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
