Job Summary

The Director of Marketing is a key member of the Marketing and Communications team and has shared accountability for the success of its functions. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Director develops and executes marketing, branding and communications strategies to advance the strategic mission and business goals for Denver Health.

Makes recommendations, shapes strategy, and provides leadership and day-to-day management for the team of strategists, specialists, consultants and vendor partners and its resources to achieve objectives, anticipate and react appropriately to issues, adjusting plans/execution as necessary to achieve goals. The Director is a trusted partner who routinely collaborates with senior leaders to influence strategy, gather input, achieve buy-in and socialize strategies and plans, and to assure high-quality execution. The Director also routinely collaborates with service line leaders and department leads to guide, make recommendations for and shapes strategy in alignment with business initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategy and Planning
    Develops marketing strategy considering consumer insights, marketing analytics, research and segmentation; competitor analysis, gap analysis and assessment of Denver Health service offering. Develops and makes business case and expansion recommendation, aligned with Denver Health strategy, best practice and results. Manages the implementation and administration of plans, monitors results and continuously optimizes. (20%)
  • Brand Management
    Manages the Denver Health brand to ensure consistent presentation across all touch points. Creates brand guidelines and communications to educate, inspire and enforce standards internally and externally. Manages creative development process for brand materials across all media.
    Manages consumer research to understand the insights about patients and the public, to learn of their needs, wants and behaviors, and their perceptions towards Denver Health. (20%)
  • Marketing/Communication Plan Development
    Develops detailed marketing communication plans across all marketing and advertising channels, in paid, owned and earned media, in traditional and digital media. Develops marketing materials, content, creative and collateral to deploy within our marketing communications campaigns. Tracks metrics, including ROI, for all marketing channels including website traffic, digital advertising, social media presence, and other media/ activities. (20%)
  • Vendor Management
    Selects, hires and manages agencies, contractors and vendors to create material that is on-brand, on-time and on-budget to achieve the marketing strategy goals. (10%)
  • Fiscal and Resource Management
    Sets budget and allocates team and agency resources; develops and seeks approval for business expansion proposals and marketing plan recommendations. (5%)
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    Develops and implements ROI and analytics tracking to optimize marketing communications campaigns. Collaborates with CIO and data analytics team to integrate marketing metrics and tracking with Epic data, and assures ongoing quality control and integrity of data. Collaborates with the finance and business development team to ensure the marketing ROI system and Epic data provides an accurate ROI measure that is consistent with the Denver Health financial metrics and standards. (5%)
  • Staff Management
    Recruits, hires, and selects team members. Mentors and coaches team members evaluates performance, and creates and manages work schedules for direct reports. Communicates expectations to employees and establishes the routine review of essential job requirements and performance evaluation components. Manages all screening, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, orientation, career-pathing, reward and disciplinary actions for current/future direct reports. Helps with oncall if needed. (20%)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Concentration in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field required.

Work Experience:

  • Seven years of experience in marketing, new media and/or media/communications required.
  • Three years’ experience in a management role required.
  • Experience in digital marketing preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability in managing complex projects and teams, strategic marketing, planning and staff development.
  • Strong analytical capability and the ability to remain flexible with changing priorities.
  • Capability in leading multiple, complex projects to successful conclusion, on time and on budget, with a diverse team of internal and external team members.
  • Highly capable in developing business case proposals for marketing or business expansion recommendations, including cost, resource and ROI assessment.
  • Experience in developing and implementing marketing, advertising, and media strategies.
  • Experience working with vendors (hiring/firing/oversight), proven skills and background developing and leading a professional team.
  • Proven marketing skills with an ongoing understanding of the evolving landscape of digital services, products, vendors and analytics.
  • Results focused with attention to detail on metrics and analytics, so that campaigns can be continuously optimized based on results.
  • Service-oriented working style, excellent organizational abilities, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter and independent thinker who works with limited supervision and guidance.
  • Routinely promotes positive customer service in dealing with patients, visitors, executive and other staff employees as evidenced by cooperation, Responsiveness, and helpfulness.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clinical leadership, medical staff, and support staff.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

  • Technology – Demonstrated proficiency with technology platforms, for example, the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
