What We’re Looking For: We are looking for an experienced professional who can continually enhance the university’s image through various external communication channels with an emphasis on media management. Our next colleague will oversee and coordinate media outreach and news gathering; proactively pitch and respond to media inquiries; deal with crisis and emerging situations; and engage in strategic communication planning.
 
Your Role in UNC’s Success: The Director of News and Public Relations serves as the media relations liaison to campus. With a priority of high-level messaging that impacts the institutional mission, this position publicly showcases and supports UNC’s work in educating students and serving the state.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, or Communications.
 
In addition to education, the applicant should have at least 5-7 years of experience overseeing or managing public relations and media relations. Working in an institution of higher education is welcomed.
 
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong editing and proofreading skills, and computer proficiency in word processing, photo and design programs are required. A general understanding of NCAA policies and procedures is required.
 
Preferred Qualifications
-Master’s degree in a related field
 
-Be accredited in public relations

Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.
