Position Summary:

The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for expanding and strengthening Craig Hospital Foundation's philanthropic support. This position focuses on qualifying, cultivating and inspiring prospective major donors. This position will be responsible for engaging new or lapsed donors, and securing major gifts with a capacity of $10,000 or more in support of fundraising priorities. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a relationship builder, and a data‑savvy fundraiser who thrives on connecting people to purpose, who will manage high call and travel volume to inspire new and prospective donors to give.

Position Requirements:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Active and insurable Colorado State Driver's license.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field required.
  • Experience: Minimum 1–5 years of experience in fundraising, specifically in stewarding, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts in a non-profit organization required. Prior experience developing one-on-one donor relationships. Experience with fundraising databases and Raisers' Edge/NXT database base preferred. Documented success in managing a portfolio of assigned donors and a successful solicitation record.
  • Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of fundraising and development principles, methods and procedures. Persistent in discovering and pursuing new prospects. Excellent verbal communication skills to include outstanding persuasion and sales skills to influence potential donors to become involved with Craig. Ability to set and reach aggressive goals. Creative and able to be an "out of the box" thinker. Ability to present self in a personable, professional and energetic manner. Emotionally resilient and socially perceptive, being able to discern when someone is interested and capable of moving forward with a philanthropic relationship. Ability to work collaboratively and successfully as a member of a team as well as independently. Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines, while effectively managing multiple projects simultaneously. Good talent for being flexible and adapting presentations to meet the interests of each donor. Possess good analytical and problem-solving skills, must be detail oriented with excellent follow-through. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Must have a high level of accuracy and proofreading skills. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office. Raiser's Edge and NXT knowledge are strongly preferred. Must be capable of traveling locally and nationally. Ability to display a passion for the mission of Craig Hospital.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead proactive outreach to new and emerging prospects through personalized emails, calls, and digital engagement.
  • Initiate discovery conversations to understand donor motivations, philanthropic interests, and capacity.
  • Qualify prospects using structured criteria to determine readiness for major gift cultivation.
  • Develop tailored engagement pathways that move prospects toward deeper involvement.
  • Partner with Prospect Development and Research Manager to build a robust pipeline of qualified prospects through research, referrals, and data insights.
  • Monitor movement through the discovery funnel and ensure timely transitions to major gift officers.
  • Collaborate with development leadership to align discovery efforts with campaign and program priorities.
  • Synthesize donor insights into clear, actionable profiles for gift officers.
  • Prepare warm handoffs to major gift officers with detailed notes and recommended next steps.
  • Partner with annual giving to identify donors showing increased engagement or giving potential.
  • Coordinate with stewardship teams to ensure new prospects receive appropriate follow-up.
  • Maintain meticulous CRM records documenting outreach, qualification status, and donor insights.
  • Track discovery metrics such as outreach volume, qualification rates, and conversion to portfolios.
  • Provide regular pipeline reports to inform forecasting and strategic planning.
  • Identify and manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and design and implement appropriate cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities for each.
  • Coordinate the involvement of appropriate hospital staff and board members in the planning of solicitation strategies and stewardship activities.
  • Prepare proposals and presentations for donor prospects, solicit gifts, and negotiate gift agreements.
  • Meet specific goals for personal solicitations and shared dollar goals.
  • Participate in planning and strategic direction for the Foundation.
  • Passionately sell Craig Hospital through inspirational presentations.

Pay Range: $40.71/ Hour – $58.63/ Hour
