Director, Public Relations & Marketing directs all marketing, public relations, branding, and internal and external communications for Volunteers of America Colorado Branch. The Director works closely with the VP of Marketing & Development, the CEO and senior leadership in planning and implementing strategic marketing programs, communications and public relations activities that will enable the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch (“VOAC”) to achieve its reputation, branding and fundraising goals. This position currently manages the Marketing and Public Relations Specialist and it is expected that this department will expand in scope and scale over time.
Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy that generates measurable results and allows VOAC to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted audiences, key influencers, donors, volunteers, and local media.
Foster consistent and strategic brand management across VOAC. Collaborate and coordinate with VOA National on marketing, fund raising and brand management.
Provide counsel to CEO, the board and leadership regarding marketing, communications, branding, media, and public affairs.
Perform media (written, internet, event, television, radio, etc.) spokesperson duties in place of CEO as required. Pitch media outlet opportunities to feature VOAC leadership as subject matter experts and thought leaders. Build and maintain good working relationships with journalists, broadcasters and community relations professionals throughout Colorado and in all forms of media (print, internet, television and radio). Curates public relations strategies to expand the agency’s reputation and brand awareness.
Maintain strong relationships with key stake holders including donors, volunteers and public officials and collaborates with them to enhance VOAC’s brand and fundraising efforts.
Has responsibility for and assists VP Marketing and Development in budgeting, managing division priorities and in strategic fund-raising programs.
Develops go-to-market strategies for event ticket sales with the goal of new donor acquisition and increasing brand awareness. Directs the design of marketing materials for events and ticket sales (invitations, flyers, Eventbrite.com, email communications, event programs, social media promotion, and photography).
Develops and implements marketing strategy and content calendar for B2B and B2C audiences. Coordinates the production of all creative marketing assets including the newsletter (print and digital), annual report, social media posts, website, brochures and other digital and printed materials needed for fundraising and public relations purposes.
Directly responsible for growing the organization’s social media presence using keywords, fundraisers, hashtags, and influencers.
Coordinates special events for the agency, including fund raising and public relations events. Seeks out new event venues and negotiates with vendors to get the best ROI. Leads and assists event planning committees.
Participates in and may lead the Board Marketing and Communications Committee, employee internal communications committee and the VOAC Guild.
Lead team in prioritizing and implementing internal communications including employee newsletter and SharePoint (intranet).
Manages all internal requests for content such as brochures, flyers, videos, campaigns, etc.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field or equivalent relevant experience. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in public relations, marketing and/or fundraising, preferably, with a non-profit organization. Minimum of 4 years of people management and project management experience. Experience managing external contractors and vendors a plus. One or more years of event planning experience preferred.
Ability to professionally interact with senior level executives, board members and stakeholders. Proven ability to set and achieve aggressive goals and effectively work with staff, donors, volunteers and the media.
Strong writing, organizational and computer skills. Demonstrated experience using CMS, CRM Databases, MS applications (Word, Power Point and Excel) and email marketing software. Must be skilled in all aspects of social media content. Experience in the Adobe Creative Suite.
Experienced in PPC (Google Ads), display, social media, and mobile advertising. Experienced in paid media acquisition for print and OOH advertising.
Experienced in email marketing (trigger-based and drip campaigns), attribution marketing, remarketing, landing page development, and SEO. Ability to track and report on key performance indicators and metrics for ROI. Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Google Tag Manager certifications preferred.
Poise, presence and a proven ability to work and interact with business and media executives and volunteers as an official representative of the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch.
Experience mitigating public relations crises and deescalating situations with the public and the media.
