Position Summary:


This position requires teaching the equivalent of 15 semester hours of courses (day, evening and/or weekend classes) with primary responsibility for teaching and supervising courses in Elementary Education and Literacy. These may include foundational and early methods courses with clinical supervision.


The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Teach 15 semester hours of day and/or evening courses in Elementary Education with a preferred focus on diversity, culturally and linguistically diverse education, inclusive education, differentiated learning environments, and/or assessment and instruction for differentiated learning within general education elementary classes. Support preservice teachers within diverse K-6 classrooms as part of the Elementary Education licensure program. Furthermore, the candidate must have a willingness to collaborate with University colleagues and public school district personnel in supervision of practicum internships and/or residents in the field and a desire to work with a diverse University student body, including but not limited to working adults, students of color, and students who are culturally and linguistically diverse, in order to increase student retention and success. Other responsibilities include participation in professional development, course development, and student advising. Position involves driving to partner schools for clinical supervision of teacher candidates. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population of nontraditional, first generation college students within a University that is approaching Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI ) status.


Required Qualifications:


Masters Degree in Elementary Education, Teaching, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications:


Doctorate, ABD , or Masters degree in Elementary Education or in an area of curriculum and/or instruction related to elementary education. Five years of elementary school teaching in K-6 general classroom in addressing the needs of diverse students. Teaching endorsement and/or license in culturally and linguistically diverse education.

Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate methods courses. Demonstrated experience in teaching culturally and linguistically diverse K-6 and University populations. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups including outreach to and retention of University students of color. Willingness to collaborate with K-6 public schools in partnership activities. Demonstrated ability to supervise field placements and student teachers. Demonstrated community engagement experience, e.g., partnerships for community-based research projects, service learning.

Demonstrated experience in utilizing online course systems, such as Blackboard.
