The Internal Communications Manager leads various employee-focused communications for the Colorado College Office of Communications and Marketing. The position will inform and engage internal audiences by blending extensive knowledge of successful internal communications with a creative mindset.

This individual produces, aligns, and effectively delivers all internal communication in support of the college’s strategic initiatives; collaborates with the leaders of all offices, departments, and groups to create, coordinate, and implement consistent internal communication practices; maintains confidentiality and uses discretion when working with proprietary information; leads internal communications with the goal of helping the college improve institutional effectiveness and increase collaboration and transparency

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the colleges campus-wide internal communication practices, and develop and execute strategies that ensure effective communication and transparency across and within college divisions. Consistently monitor and assess utilization of internal communication strategies to determine effectiveness and transparency.
  • Identify college processes and information that need greater clarity and visibility. Develop strategies to clearly explain and communicate them.
  • Design and implement a cascading communications framework and network for the college.
  • Collaborate with Office of Human Resources to develop a communications strategy to enhance college culture and align employees around new values.
  • Regularly engage andpartner with members of campus to respond to needs and reflect values and community cultures.
  • Determine the appropriate messages, timelines, audiences, and channels for specific internal communications initiatives.
  • Write content that informs, enlightens, and engages internal audiences through established and new channels including website, intranet, and email communications; build and send emails for various internal communications needs.
  • Establish trackable metrics that target desired outcomes like increased audience engagement or improved culture; study audience engagement and behavior to improve tactics.
  • Assist with communications for unplanned, immediate, and crisis needs.
  • Develop internal processes to ensure consistent college-wide approaches to messaging and branding.
  • Lead efforts with major departments and offices including the Faculty Executive Committee, Staff Council, committees, and the Cabinet to analyze their current communication practices/strategies and develop plans to effectively communicate their policies and practices with special attention to improving collaboration, communication, transparency, and accountability.
  • Increase understanding of antiracist methods and language; apply and integrate into projects that reflect the authentic and aspirational community of the college and practice antiracism in messaging, storytelling, and major college communications across all platforms.

o Actively support the colleges plan to be an antiracist institution by understanding, engaging with, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community.
o Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe
situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
o Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the colleges sustainability
initiatives and innovation.
o Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree plus a minimum of three years experience in a related field (e.g. journalism or public relations) or comparable experience; strong understanding of and appreciation for higher education, especially the role of private liberal arts and sciences colleges; proven facility in promotional writing; ability to work on several projects concurrently and under deadline while delivering high-quality results; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field; experience in higher education communication, particularly at a liberal arts institution. Ability to develop publications that communicate creatively and effectively with audiences of diverse ages and interests; strong interviewing, editing, proofreading, and word processing skills; ability to work effectively as a member of a team with a variety of people to produce high-quality publications; and strong organizational and public relations skills.
