St. Mary’s Academy is seeking an Assistant Principal for the Lower School who is passionate about children, learning, and community. This role supports the smooth and thoughtful day-to-day operations of the elementary program while placing students’ academic growth and well-being at the heart of all decisions. The Assistant Principal works closely with faculty, staff, parents, and students to create an environment where every child feels known, supported, and inspired. Responsibilities will be shaped collaboratively, honoring the strengths of the selected candidate and the evolving needs of the school.

The Assistant Principal will help foster a school culture grounded in the Loretto School Values—one that celebrates curiosity, promotes excellence in teaching and learning, and embraces the Lower School as a joyful place where a love of learning is nurtured each day. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and approachable leader, ideally with prior elementary administrative experience, who brings both warmth and professionalism to their work. A strong background in early childhood and elementary education, along with the ability to build authentic, trusting relationships across all school constituencies, is essential.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Student Life, Culture, and Community

  • Support implementation of the school’s strategic plan with a focus on instructional excellence and coherence

  • Provide instructional coaching to faculty, fostering reflective practice and professional growth

  • Partner with academic leaders to lead curriculum alignment and review, ensuring coherence across courses and grade levels

  • Foster a joyful, inclusive Lower School environment that reflects the Loretto School Values and encourages a love of learning.

  • Support the social, emotional, and behavioral development of students by administering discipline in alignment with the school’s Positive Behavior Program.

  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Lower School Loretto Leaders Program, promoting student leadership, service, and responsibility.

  • Positively support the day-to-day operations of the early childhood program, including Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten, ensuring developmentally appropriate practices and strong communication with families.

  • Serve as a liaison to St. Mary’s Academy’s Before and After School programs, collaborating to ensure consistency, safety, and a seamless student experience.

  • Build strong, authentic relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff to strengthen community engagement and trust.

Instructional Leadership and Strategic Initiatives

  • Partner with the Principal and faculty to support high-quality instruction and continuous improvement across the Lower School.

  • Support professional growth and instructional alignment through collaboration, observation, feedback, and coaching as appropriate.

  • Participate in the creation of the Lower School master schedule, serving as a key resource to ensure instructional priorities and student needs are effectively met.

  • Use data and observation to inform decisions related to curriculum, instruction, and student support initiatives.

  • Support the mission of St. Mary’s Academy by ensuring instructional practices reflect the school’s values and educational philosophy.

School Operations and Leadership

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of Teacher Assistants, including hiring, onboarding, supervision, evaluation, and professional development.

  • Provide visible, supportive leadership to faculty and staff, contributing to a positive and professional work environment.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders to support school initiatives and operational needs.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in education administration, curriculum leadership or related field preferred

  • 2-4+ years of elementary school leadership and/or instructional coaching

  • Knowledge and experience in early childhood education programs

  • Current knowledge of best instructional practices

  • Special talent to connect, build relationships, and communicate effectively with parents, staff, and students

  • Ability to effectively motivate and supervise people

  • Capable thought partner to the lower school principal

  • A sense of resonance with the St. Mary’s Academy mission, vision and values

 

Salary/Benefits:
