This position will lead communication efforts on behalf of United with a focus on the airline’s San Francisco and Los Angeles hubs. This position will work as an integral member of United’s Corporate Communications team to conceive, manage and implement campaigns to promote the United brand both externally and internally in these two key cities. In addition, this communicator will manage day-to-day media inquiries for SFO and LAX and serve as a company spokesperson. The Manager will also be expected to develop relationships with media outlets throughout the region, and effectively integrate with internal communications to amplify positive news coverage and enhance employee engagement.         

  • Manage the development of market announcements and programs
  • Plan and implement communications campaigns and events focused in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas
  • Serve as media relations lead for local markets
  • Serve as employee communications lead for the markets and develop and report unique stories that highlight our employees, operation and strategy in the market
  • Assist United’s Social Media team with capturing local content for use across a variety of platforms

Required 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field
  • 3-5 years of PR/communications experience
  • Firm grasp and relationships with media as well as with relevant business and/or travel media  
  • Execution and process oriented, forward thinking, diligent and creative, attention to detail   
  • Highly effective in a fast-paced environment; works well under pressure
  • Expertise in the evolving media landscape and ability to work with traditional and non-traditional media
  • Exemplary writing, media relations and communication skills                                      
  • Proven track record in handling multiple priorities and stakeholders and working with team members across various geographies                                                              
  • Ability to problem-solve and be a self-starter
  • Superior business writing and editing skills
  • Capacity to deliver against quality and timing targets
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills  
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and capturing appropriate content (video, photography)
  • Ability to develop messaging and integrated communications plans and strategies
  • Experience in a communications and/or public relations department
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Collaborative and unflinchingly positive with an upbeat approach to work
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
