The Manager, Donor Relations, advancing the organization’s relationships with benefactors to provide a positive experience, enhance donor retention, and facilitate future giving. The individual will develop and manage donor inquiries and provide timely support to donors; act as the primary liaison between Benefits in Action and donors to identify requirements for incoming gifts; and assist with critical data management, data gathering, analytical thinking, and process improvements.

Benefits in Action is a non-profit organization in Colorado dedicated to the understanding, access, and utilization of health-related benefits to enhance health and well-being of those in the community. In 2023, Benefits in Action provided services to more than 10,000 individuals by assisting them with Medicaid, Medicare, Connect for Health, and food assistance.

About the role: This position is responsible for advancing the organization’s relationships with benefactors to provide a positive experience, enhance donor retention, and facilitate future giving. The individual will develop and manage donor inquiries and provide timely support to donors; act as the primary liaison between Benefits in Action and donors to identify requirements for incoming gifts; and assist with critical data management, data gathering, analytical thinking, and process improvements.

The Manager of Donor Relations will work closely with the Director of Strategic Engagement on a variety of strategic initiatives focused on fundraising for the organization. The Manager of Donor Relations creates and implements a fundraising plan detailing how the organization can obtain financial support, identifying sources such as individual investors, faith partners, marketing opportunities, and corporate investors. The fundraising plan contains strategies to successfully build an individual donor base to diversify Benefits in Action’s funding.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning (15%):

  • Work together with the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Strategic Engagement, and the Executive Director to develop the annual organizational development budget and the annual development plan. 
  • Provide monthly development reports to the Executive Director and the Director of Strategic Engagement for use with various constituencies. This monthly report includes progress on goals, education regarding development activities, and implications for development activities (e.g., changes to federal tax laws, etc.).

Development (85%):

  • Act as a liaison to the community, to educate the community about donor education and information about Benefits in Action.
  • Develop strategies for the Benefits in Action philanthropic fundraising program including donor cultivation activities for individual, corporate, faith, and foundation revenue streams.
  • Manage and grow individual donor portfolios.
  • Work directly with the Executive Director to provide materials specific to individual donors/sponsors.
  • Track and monitor donor outreach.
  • Develop successful programs and campaigns to help attract support needed to meet the organization's goals.
  • Facilitate the organization of a campaign or event that will solicit donations.
  • Manage the Colorado Gives Day process.
  • Manage the donor development database, including reports, gift process, donor history, etc.
  • Cross-train Donor Relations processes and procedures to provide backup in key areas.

Education/ Work Requirements:

  • College degree or equivalent.
  • 3-4+ years of fundraising and donor experience including:
    • individual giving experience
    • strategic planning
  • Knowledge of the Colorado philanthropic community.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in completing assigned duties.
  • Understand and demonstrate an extremely high level of sensitivity to customer relations, embrace a donor-centric philosophy, etiquette protocol, and drive to deliver the best possible donor experience and meet expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with prospective donors, volunteers, and community members showcasing articulate communication and the ability to cultivate meaningful connections with diverse populations.

Other Required Strengths:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Highly collaborative style, experience developing and implementing tools to reach and engage individual donors.
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position fundraising and development discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Able to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including volunteers, donors, clients, community members, and other supporters.
  • Understanding of and commitment to competently working with diverse people and communities.
  • Experience navigating through concurrent projects with varying priorities, exhibiting adept organizational skills and a knack for thriving in dynamic environments.
  • Willingness to jump in where needed.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA practices.
  • Must have a reliable car, current driver’s license, and auto insurance.

Position Type/ Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, requiring evening and weekend work, the ability to meet donors when they are available, and the ability to be flexible and responsive to emergent needs of Benefits in Action.
 
Compensation & Benefits:

  • $50,000 – $57,000 depending on experience.
  • Medical/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance/Short- and Long-Term Disability/Retirement.
  • Paid time off benefits (holiday, sick, vacation)
