SUMMARY
The Manager of Communications is responsible for supporting Beef Checkoff-funded communications strategies as a member of the Issues Management & Public Relations (IMPR) team. Work will include, but is not limited to, the creation of written and visual content including infographics, talking points, videos, media responses and stories about the beef industry. Additionally, this position will assist in tracking results and monitoring traditional and social media, as well as influencer conversations, pop culture and current events, to identify success of campaign placements as well as identify trends and issues that could threaten consumer confidence in beef.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Communications: 85%
- In conjunction with the IMPR team, assist in the development and execution of effective and timely communications strategies.
- Tactics may include, but are not limited to, maintaining and updating websites, executing media outreach, writing video scripts, writing and updating talking points, monitoring media coverage and tracking results to ensure the Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. brand and messaging are used throughout resources and issues are appropriately addressed.

With guidance from the team, develop and distribute communications (i.e.: infographics, newsletters, campaign promotional materials, stories, scripts, presentations) that are compelling, accurate, clear, in line with our brand voice and delivered on time.

Working in collaboration with the team, provide recommendations on reputation management efforts through engagement opportunities for new key audiences and the development of consumer communications strategies.

Aggregate metrics for IMPR collateral, outreach and placements and manage relevant data for internal systems for the purpose of tracking and reporting results.
- Participate in daily newsroom calls to review media storylines, trends and opportunities for beef. Use trend analysis to provide recommendations for proactive reputation management campaign strategies.
- Support the internal team and state partners on public relations requests, including drafting materials and coordinating content needs and daily monitoring.

- Collaborate with other members on the team to optimize efficiency and ensure consistent messaging across channels.
- Contribute to the development of creative communications strategies and practices by keeping abreast of latest industry standards, best practices, tools and technologies.
- Maintain shared calendars, project tracking documents, department SharePoint site and other administrative needs.
- Ability to consistently meet attendance standards for regular, reliable, predictable, full-time attendance.

Ability to travel overnight and availability on weekends. Occasionally involving early/late weekend hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION – Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, English literature or creative writing, marketing or similar field required.
- EXPERIENCE – Minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications, journalism or public relations.

- CERTIFICATION(S) – None
- SKILLS- Knowledge of communication principles/theories, specifically strategic thinking, communication plan development and execution, messaging, content strategy and writing. Comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment of issues and reputation management and must be passionate about responding to the challenging issues impacting the beef and cattle industry. Basic understanding of AP Style writing. Basic knowledge of social media platforms. Graphic design skills (Adobe Creative Suite) preferred. Human relations skills, including style flexing, receiving constructive feedback and active listening. Basic skills in organization and prioritization, including tracking multiple projects. Basic skills in computer systems, including Microsoft Office.
