DOTI utilizes media relations, social media, a website, and strategic public communications to promote and inform the public of the Department’s programs and initiatives and oversees internal communications.

This position is an opportunity to be a part of a collaborative and empowering team that supports DOTI’s public information activities, project communications and media relations. Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for the media – accurately and thoroughly researching complex issues, synthesizing complicated matters and data into an understandable context, following through on inquiries, drafting messages for approval and dissemination, and providing on-camera interviews or written statements on behalf of DOTI, as needed

  • Plan, develop, design, coordinate, and monitor a variety of promotional and informational campaigns and serve as spokesperson

  • Develop a social media presence and keep abreast of current industry trends on a variety of social media platforms and tailor and promote internal and external agency initiatives

  • Help manage internal communications by acting as a conduit between management and internal audience, developing newsletters, informational materials, and other related documents to facilitate communication

  • Prepare and disseminate responses to public information/CORA requests and assure legal compliance in areas affecting public access to information

  • Provides crisis management and/or communications during emergency situations by managing and responding to media requests, serving as a spokesperson, and report on follow-through of crisis communications efforts

  • Serve in Joint Information Center as needed to support Denver’s emergency operations

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working as Public Information Officer

  • An understanding of city/county level transportation topics and trends

  • Confidence in front of the camera

  • Strong writing skills

  • Experience with a variety of social media platforms

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of full performance, professional level experience performing marketing and/or public relations functions including research and analysis, developing public announcements and publications, and developing marketing and/or public relations strategies.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
