Description

Under general supervision, produces graphic layouts for print within the Parks, Recreation, & Community Programs Department. 

This is a 25 hour a week position.  Create your own in-office schedule by selecting the hours that work best for you Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Schedule will require adjustment during weeks that include a special event or festival.

Assists with graphic design and layout of internal and external publications, miscellaneous brochures and electronic communications.

Assists with maintaining and updating division’s web pages.  

Photographs and takes videos at city events and activities for use in publications or video presentations.

Assists with special event planning as assigned.

Performs other administrative functions as required.

May be required to work overtime as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

High School diploma or GED and one year of graphic design work experience is required. 
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field preferred. 
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. 

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.

Knowledge of the city of Thornton recreation program goals and objectives.

Knowledge of current Social Media trends.

Knowledge of graphic design, layout and production techniques.

Knowledge of desktop publishing and creative design software such as Adobe In Design, Illustrator, Acrobat, Photoshop, Excel, Word, Publisher and Power Point.

Knowledge of marketing, advertising, and promotion.

Knowledge of correct use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax.

Knowledge of basic mathematics.

Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.

Knowledge of photography and use of photographic materials.

Knowledge of basic recreation philosophies, programs, facilities and special events.

Knowledge of municipal government functions and processes.

Skill in communicating clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Skill in the design, illustration and layout of artwork for advertising and marketing documents.

Skill in creating documents for marketing, advertising, and promotion.

Skill in shooting, scanning and manipulating still photographs; ability to shoot and edit video.

Skill in operating digital camera equipment.

Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public.

Skill in customer service.

Ability to design, illustrate, and photograph.

Ability to update web content. 

Ability to schedule and maintain Social Media calendar.

Ability to work with the public.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This position is mostly sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity. The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme cold, extreme heat, and noise.
