DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
Colorado has stories to tell. History Colorado is looking for someone who can be our state's storyteller.
The Podcast Host (Three-year limited-term position) will be responsible for developing creative podcast presentations that bring the past to life for modern audiences. The Podcast Host will collaborate with other members of the podcast team and museum staff to build episodes around stories from Colorado's history. The successful candidate will have a knack for finding the heart of the story and an eye for opportunities to apply history in ways that will enrich listeners' lives in the present.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Leading all facets of the project, including content creation, podcast brand and voice, marketing, distribution, data collection, market research and revenue conversion.
Creating the content, voice, and brand of the podcast.
Writing, reporting, editing, and hosting the podcast.
Developing and recommending a podcast and season structure (number of episodes, length of episodes, theme of season, etc.) to the Podcast Advisory Group (final format of the podcast will be decided on in collaboration with the Podcast Advisory Group).
Discovering and developing content for 12 to 30 episodes of 10 to 60 minutes apiece.
Producing a business plan covering the following topics: competitive landscape, target audience, roll out plan, marketing plan, distribution plan, budget.
Research and managing any appropriate market studies to inform and refine the podcast concept, including a focus on: content and overall strategy, target audiences and distribution channels, benchmarks of success, converting listeners into action takers, and revenue strategies.
Hiring and supervising a podcast producer.
Conducting and archiving oral history interviews as part of History Colorado's collection.
Exploring a wide variety of topics using the resources located at History Colorado and elsewhere.
Working with staff across a wide range of departments at History Colorado, including Interpretation, Marketing and Communications, Collections, Education, Exhibits, Archeology, Historic Preservation, and others.
Representing History Colorado to stakeholder groups and media outlets.
Working with and reporting to Podcast Advisory Group.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SUBSTITUTIONS, CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & APPEAL RIGHTS:
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience working in media production with some experience creating podcasts specifically. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following attributes:
Robust technical skills including comfort with field recording and in studio recording environments; familiarity with various microphones; proficiency in Adobe Audition, ProTools, or similar professional audio editing software.
Adept with the use of music; and doing what it takes to get a story to sound just right.
Robust research skills, including work with oral histories, archival materials, artifacts, and online databases.
Experience conducting a wide variety of interviews, and an instinct for good lines of questioning that produce polished, powerful podcast content.
A track record of creative collaboration, forming connections with others, and facilitating success in a team setting.

Knowledge about Colorado history and the ability to situate that history within the broader context of the history of the American Western and the United States.
