Job Overview

The Colorado Mountain Club is looking for a mountain-savvy, energetic individual who is an expert in the PR space and understands grassroots engagement strategies to convey the story of the Club experience.  The PR and Communications Manager will be responsible for promoting the Colorado Mountain Club’s mission through developing and implementing dynamic press and communications strategies. This position will be the driving force behind creating valuable and engaging content for the various channels that the CMC uses to communicate.

Areas of Responsibility
  • Design and execute a marketing communications plan including strategy, goals, budget and tactics around emails, social media, and blogs for all CMC programming
  • Develop media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media
  • Leverage existing media relations and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media
  • Create content for press releases, press kits, byline articles, and keynote presentations
  • Act as editor and project manager of Trail & Timberline, the CMC’s biannual magazine
  • Supervise and write content for the Clubhouse blog
  • Write and send monthly  Rucksack e-newsletter to the 19,000-subscriber list, as well as create content for other internal emails to Club members
  • Coordinate all public relations activities
  • Manage media inquiries and interview requests
  • Analyze media coverage, and develop responses when needed
  • Measure, analyze, and report KPIs on emails, social, and PR activities
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure website is up to date, including creating webpages for new programs
  • Oversee 1-2 marketing interns per quarter
  • Complete special projects as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in public relations and communications fields with demonstrated success
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English or Marketing (with a PR focus) is preferred
  • Passion for the outdoors and Colorado’s mountains
  • Strong existing relationships with both local and industry media outlets
  • Excellent project management skills, with ability to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Experience acting as a company spokesperson, comfortable in both broadcast and print media interviews
  • Solid experience with managing social media and blogs
  • Exceptional oral and written communications with strong editing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite preferred
  • Computer literacy in database management and content management system websites
  • Occasional out-of-town, overnight travel and some weekend and evenings required
Compensation/Benefits

The annual salary for this position is $38,000.
