Assists in providing strategic direction and execution of internal communications, media and public relations, and government affairs. Coordinates with the Public Affairs, HR, Office Administration and IT teams to ensure goals and corporate objectives are aligned and advanced. Ensures brand integrity, message alignment and standardizing communications with the rest of the Company. Plans, develops and implements internal and external media communications for the Company. Works to build understanding and acceptance of policies, programs and services effectively communicating information through traditional, trade, digital and social media.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manages employee communications and coordinates tailored delivery of corporate communications to employees through intranet and email
  • Obtains a thorough understanding of internal and external communication channels and coordinates with digital and creative services consultants to develop materials that support communications objectives
  • Fosters employee engagement by assisting with communicating internal events including town halls, employee appreciation, monthly and quarterly newsletters and other Company sponsored events
  • Maintains strong regional relationships and maintains awareness of operational activities through relationships, meeting attendance, field office and site visits
  • Serves as backup Company spokesperson for Director of Public Affairs
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with local press
  • Identifies local and regional opportunities for advertising and branding. Works with creative teams to execute ad strategy and implementation
  • Increases employee knowledge and preparedness through Ambassador Program
  • Serves as a member of the crisis communications response team
  • Supports local community engagement efforts by establishing and maintaining local relationships with community organizations to build support for the Company’s goals and activities
  • Represents the Company to the community through engagement in civic groups, business associations and at informational public meetings
  • Attends trade association meetings to represent Company interests and provides updates to operations teams
  • Assists in planning, developing and implementing media relations strategies
  • Works with internal team and media vendors to optimize digital campaigns based on performance learnings
  • Provides information to media outlets by generating news releases and articles, arranging and staffing news conferences, and acting as a media liaison to disseminate information to educate the public
  • Researches and gathers information about the organization, the energy industry and current events to develop external messages and prepares subject matter experts for interviews
  • Assists with the execution of rapid responses for breaking stories, including providing information and messages on an around-the-clock basis, with after-hours and weekend on-call duty.
  • Analyzes content and data to create recommendations and plans for evolving social media strategies, platforms and campaigns
  • Monitors traditional and social media coverage, and provide updates to the organization
  • Assists in copywriting and editing tasks. Extreme attention to detail and ability to follow AP style guidelines, maintain stylistic consistency and adhere to brand standards
  • Provides strategy and execution for content distribution and oversees news site postings, social media content sharing and news media pitches
  • Collects, validates, refines, and interprets media requirements for entry into appropriate internal systems/forms and communication to internal/external stakeholders

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public affairs or related program
  • 1-3 years of media planning experience in an agency, consulting, media or corporate setting
  • Experience in the oil & gas experience preferred
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated integrity, responsibility and a professional demeanor in all interactions. Exceptional ability to communicate in writing clearly, with clarity and proper pronunciation, grammar and style. Knowledge and competency of applying AP style
  • Able to manage own workflow while coordinating with internal teams on schedules, campaign requirements, goals, and assignments as needed
  • Possess strong critical thinking, quantitative analysis abilities and close attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Office 365 and Excel) and a willingness to learn new software programs as needed
  • Able to shift priorities quickly with a strong sense of urgency and examine issues both strategically and tactically
  • Able to simultaneously manage multiple tasks/projects, perform efficiently and accurately under tight deadlines
  • Display dependable, strong work ethic
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, professional environment
