Location:

This position is hybrid with three days a week in person at Denver International Airport. Additionally, evening, nights and weekend availability will be needed to accommodate installation and maintenance periods.

What You'll Do:

Denver International Airport (DEN), the third busiest airport in North America, is seeking a dynamic, creative and experienced leader to take its arts and exhibitions program to new heights. From facilitating an inclusive and diverse community selection panel, to coordinating the installation and maintenance of large-scale public artworks, to creating immersive and engaging temporary exhibits, we are looking for someone to lead this small and mighty team of talented art professionals.

The Public Art and Exhibition Manager is responsible for overseeing the budget, planning, selection process, design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of the public art and exhibition program at the Denver International Airport (DEN). The Public Art Manager works closely with internal and external stakeholders, including elected officials, commissioners, city and airport personnel, community members, design professionals, contractors, architects, engineers, and commissioned artists, to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality art projects that enhance the airport's customer experience. This position will oversee the Public Art Program Manager and Exhibition Curator positions.

 

Key Responsibilities Will Include:

 

  • Establish and manage implementation of long- and short-range organizational goals, priorities and objectives for delivery of an exceptional public art and exhibition program. Develop, manage, plan, and coordinate programs and activities that engage passengers and employees and improve customer satisfaction with the public art program.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and proactively identify opportunities that are focused on creating an exceptional art program for our customers to enjoy.
  • Manage complex art projects while working with key stakeholders including elected officials, commissioners, city and airport personnel, community members, design professionals, contractors, architects, engineers and artists.
  • Convene and manage selection panel meetings and facilitate the selection process for new commission opportunities according to the city’s public art policy.
  • Manage and facilitate art and exhibition program meetings such as construction meetings, site-visits and design team meetings, including drafting agendas, minutes and reports leading to the successful completion of commissioned and loaned art projects.
  • Manage all arts related requests for proposals including the coordination and participate in contract preparation and negotiations.
  • Set, manage and monitor Art and Exhibition budget to ensure budget is adequately spent and tracked.
  • Serve as project manager for all public artwork, including artist contracts, including processing invoices and payments, schedules, and ensuring milestones are met.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders on the construction approval process including permits, codes and regulations and other necessary project approvals.
  • Prepare and deliver executive presentations to include summary reports and periodic project updates regarding active projects.
  • Develop and manage project and program level budgets.
  • Identify spaces and develop and implement ongoing rotating sculpture program including public art calls, artists agreements, installation and removal of sculptures and other works of art.
  • Serve as a steward of the art collections at DEN. Continually monitors, maintains, and coordinates conservation, maintenance and repairs of the public art collection to ensure public and employee safety, good, appearance, and proper operation with minimal downtime and visitor inconvenience.
  • Resolve complex challenges with ongoing maintenance and restoration, access challenges, artist contracts, and stakeholder needs regarding public art program.
  • Provide direction and work closely with internal and contract graphic designers, guest curators, consultants and fabricators.
  • Oversee a team of art professionals to include Public Art Program Manager and Exhibition Curator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

What You'll Offer:

 

We are looking for someone with some or all the following skills and experience: ​

 

  • Bachelor's degree in art, art history, arts administration, or related field.
  • At least three years of experience in managing public art projects, preferably in an airport
  • Knowledge of public art principles, practices, and procedures, including selection processes, contracts, budgets, maintenance/restoration and fabrication and installation methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including artists, contractors, engineers, architects, and the public.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and web-based applications.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Have vast knowledge of artists working in the world of public art
  • Will be organized and structured to be able to manage multiple projects at any give time while staying within budget on schedule.
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Be willing to work overnights as needed to address issues with existing artworks during low traffic periods
  • Have experience negotiating art-related contracts

 

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s).
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of professional individual contributors.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts
