Public Relations Manager

  • Have experience creating and managing earned media campaigns in a corporate setting, including message development, identifying target media, building and implementing an editorial calendar, writing and delivering pitches and news releases, responding to media inquiries, and developing and publishing content
  • Can use digital media (including podcasts, video, social content, blog posts, and more) for storytelling and stakeholder engagement 
  • Have managed or worked closely with PR firms, agencies, and consultants; preferably, you’ve worked in an agency or firm yourself
  • Beyond media relations, you’ve worked on employee/internal communications, crisis communications, and other core aspects of corporate communications
  • Are flexible enough to manage shifting priorities in a growing organization, while still maintaining continuity in ongoing projects
  • Are customer-service focused and empathetic
  • Have some experience working in a regulated healthcare environment

Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Communications, the Public Relations Manager is responsible for designing, creating, and delivering communications materials and programs to support the growth and expansion of the InnovAge brand. The Public Relations Manager will collaborate with InnovAge leadership, service line operations teams, sales teams and the marketing staff to build integrated communication strategies for the organization.

Essential Functions and Work Responsibilities

Functional Category:  Research 
Estimated Percent of time Spent – 30% 

  • Researches and understands key business challenges, customer behavior, target audiences, competitive landscape and activity, company differentiators, and environmental factors that impact the business across all geographies
  • Research content topics and angles to be specific to audiences and reflective and supportive of company goals; can include Internet searches, identifying and interviewing internal subject matter experts, collaboration with external partners, and more
  • Identify and act on opportunities to position company and highlight InnovAge expertise in alignment with strategic business goals
  • Identify employees, leaders, PACE participants, and family caregivers (in coordination with other colleagues) to profile, interview, highlight, or otherwise showcase in various communications or marketing projects
  • Interview and pre-screen internal and external stakeholders for possible media pitching or inclusion in other communications efforts
  • Coordinate with internal teams to understand operational and business goals that can be supported through strategic communications initiatives
  • Contributes ideas for new programs, researching and recommending innovative and impactful strategies and tactics
  • Stays informed of developments and best practices in communications, public relations, and marketing to foster ideas and innovation

Functional Category:  Writing and Editing
Estimated Percent of time Spent – 35% 

  • Develops content and directs creative execution to provide a consistent, targeted, and impactful message
  • Understands short- and long-term department and business goals and planned initiatives
  • Write audience- and channel-specific content; can include blog posts, emails, bylined articles, media pitches, news releases, internal communications, and more
  • Repurpose existing or new content for use across multiple channels, including digital, online, offline, internal, and external
  • Modify writing and editing approach to be specific to the purpose, audience, and delivery mechanism, including business or corporate communications, feature articles, news releases, internal audiences, and more
  • Coordinate with public relations agency partners, freelance designers, and internal teams to assign writing tasks, review and edit materials, and ensure consistency in brand representation, messaging, tonality, and more; can include media releases, pitches, articles, FAQs, holding statements, corporate or executive messaging, and more
  • Provide writing expertise as needed for crisis communications
  • Use expertise to review and edit written materials in adherence with corporate brand standards and AP style
  • Assist in developing multi-media content, including videos, podcasts, and more 
  • Provide valuable and digestible content that answers consumer questions, promotes benefits of PACE, drives audiences to complete calls-to-action, represents the brand appropriately, and communicates key corporate messaging and positioning

Functional Category:  Project Management 
Estimated Percent of time Spent – 35% 

  • Interface with public relations agency partners, freelance designers, and internal teams and leaders to develop and coordinate communications materials for targeted audiences 
  • Work collaboratively with communications department colleagues, service line teams, and other departments to contribute to the development of fully integrated communications and marketing initiatives
  • Build and maintain solid partnerships with internal stakeholders and external partners to better develop, coordinate, direct, and facilitate strategic communications designed to meet business goals
  • Use data and analytics to develop, lead, and measure strategic communications projects; adjust strategic direction based on data and feedback
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Set and manage content editorial calendars
  • Provide strategic communications consultation to other departments or teams
  • Coordinate with internal subject matter experts
  • Help promote uniformity and consistency of brand
  • Represent marketing and communications department on various InnovAge cross-functional project committees
  • Monitor the defined success measures of each project to manage communications strategies to targeted performance
  • Proactively generate, maintain, and provide status reports for projects 
  • Implement projects within determined timelines and budgets
