The salary ranges for this position are $70,600 – $80,000 at Assistant Professor level or $80,000 – 98,000 at Associate Professor level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

The above salary ranges represent the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the ranges of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Metropolitan State University of Denver School of Hospitality is seeking an open rank tenure track position in the School of Hospitality with a focus on quality teaching, advising, scholarship, and service. This position will include administrative responsibilities to lead the Frank & Gina Day Leadership Academy (DLA) as the Faculty Coordinator.

This position is anticipated to start in the Fall of 2021.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.


The successful candidate will:
• Teach 6-to-9 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring), which may include teaching evening and/or online classes. The position requires teaching hospitality courses at the undergraduate level (which may include Career and Leadership Development, Quality Service Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Servant Leadership, Strategic Management, etc.), coordinating a 360-degree mentoring program, and designing/implementing the hospitality speaker leadership series. This position is responsible for cultivating a learning environment for industry-bound students and those students who wish to pursue graduate studies.
• The candidate will effectively integrate technology and applied learning into course work, applied research, and advising.

• The candidate will also be given a 3-to-6 credit release each semester for the administrative responsibilities of leading the DLA. This position is intended to be a 9-month appointment with the opportunity for regular summer administrative duties (for extra compensation) related to the operation of the DLA.

The DLA provides a robust educational experience that balances critical thinking, operational knowledge, and industry preparation. The successful candidate will cultivate industry relationships, facilitate the DLA advisory board meetings, market the program to the hospitality industry, and implement industry professional trainings. The candidate will develop and implement the DLAs short and long-term goals in alignment with the University and School’s vision, mission, and values. This includes being tasked with evaluating the feasibility of a cash-funded, industry-focused hospitality leadership certificate (or series of levels for the certificate), both for-credit and not-for-credit.

Required Qualifications

1. Terminal degree, or ABD at time of appointment, in Hospitality Leadership, Hospitality/Hotel Management, Organizational Behavior, Leadership, or other related disciplines.
2. Experience with leadership programming and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

1. At least one degree in Hospitality Management or related field.
2. Demonstrated dedication to undergraduate teaching and learning and the mission of a public, comprehensive, regional university.
3. 3 years teaching experience in an institution of higher education.
4. Record of effective scholarship in higher education.
5. Industry experience in hospitality and/or leadership programming.
6. Demonstrated ability to create and support an active, student-centered learning environment.
7. A track record of academic transformation and knowledge of online teaching strategies.
8. Nationally recognized certificates and licenses relevant to hospitality and/or leadership. (For example: CHSP, CHE, CHRM, CHIA, CHA, etc.). Please explain the relevance of the certificate to this position.
9. Experience in working collaboratively with diverse colleagues and community
10. Demonstrated contributions to equity through scholarship/creative activity, teaching, and service.
11. Demonstrated commitment to mentoring and supporting students from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds including traditional, first-generation, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Latinx, adult, military, second career, second chance, concurrent high school/ college students, and students with mental health, learning, or physical differences.
