Job Title: Senior Accountant

Position Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Established in 2002, EWB-USA has over 16,000 members engaged in 600 projects around the world. Through these partnerships, EWB-USA helps communities meet their basic needs such as clean water, sanitation and renewable energy.

We seek an experienced, talented Senior Accountant to join our team and provide support in the following areas: general accounting, grant management and reporting, financial analysis and payroll and benefits.

Areas of Responsibility

SUMMARY OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

General Accounting: The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely financial information by controlling and verifying financial transactions. The Senior Accountant will assist with all month-end and year-end financial statements and schedules. 

Grant Management and Reporting: The Senior Accountant will provide services to comply with all federal and non-federal contracts and awards.  This person will ensure that all pre and post grant award financial materials have been prepared correctly, and in a timely manner.  This position will also assist in the application to establish an approved federal indirect rate.

Payroll and Benefits: This employee will be also provide backup support on payroll.

Special Projects: Special projects will initially include analysis and implementation of a new accounting software program with an emphasis on easier, faster accounting processes and a better financial reporting experience.

The position includes the following responsibilities:

  1. Set up processes with program staff to track revenue and expenses to meet grants and contracts requirements
  2. Budgeting and reporting for Letters of Intent, Contracts, Request for Proposals and other proposals
  3. Prepares journal entries in General Ledger and provide application support
  4. Assist CFO in the preparation of the annual budget
  5. Assist CFO with annual audit by preparing and analyzing schedules
  6. Assist in the development of monthly financial reports and analyses
  7. Maintain and updates monthly schedules including Pledges, Fixed Assets, Prepaid Expenses and various holding accounts.
  8. Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
  9. Reconciliation of bank accounts on a monthly basis
  10. Complies with federal, state and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation and advising management on needed activities and resources
  11. Prepare payroll schedules on a bi-weekly basis
  12. Guides accounting and other staff by coordinating activities and answering questions
  13. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing special projects as needed.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • A college degree in accounting, business or a related field and 2-5 years of related accounting experience.
  • Connection to EWB-USA’s mission and vision • Superior communication skills, written and verbal • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, management and accounting • Experience with budget development
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Team player motivated to do what it takes to get the job done well • Ability to maintain strict confidence and use discretion with sensitive information
  • Non-profit accounting experience a plus • Proven effectiveness managing others, empowering them to make decisions • Success seeing beyond the numbers, identifying trends and new possibilities • Experience with current accounting software packages
  • Experience with working through an accounting software transition, a plus
